I checked the reward formula before writing this: doubling k changes my pool's rewards by about 0.01%. I am not voting my wallet here.\nWhat I want is more independent block producers. Everyone in this debate agrees that is the goal. Stake has concentrated into a few dozen operating groups, and hundreds of capable operators sit below the level where a pool makes blocks reliably. The argument is only about whether k is a lever that helps. I think it is.\nSaturation is the only moment a delegator is forced to look at their pool. Under k=500 a handful of pools are saturated and nothing pushes anyone to look anywhere. Halving the saturation point puts roughly two hundred pools over the line and gives their delegators a reason to open the wallet and choose again. Not every stake pool operator is an influencer. Many of us run solid infrastructure — block producer, relays, monitoring, upgrades, years of uptime — and do not run a YouTube channel or a Twitter following. Under the current settings delegation flows to whoever is loudest, and the quiet operators are never seen. A saturation event is the one moment the quiet ones get looked at. That is worth a lot to me, and it is the part of this debate that the case against never addresses.\nLong term, k sets how many fully rewarded pools the network can hold. At today's stake that is about 285 at k=500 and about 570 at k=1000. Those slots do not fill overnight, but they set the shape of the network for the years after. I would rather build the room and let delegation grow into it than keep the ceiling where it is.\nThe counter-arguments, honestly:\n'Displaced stake will go to sibling pools of the same operator.' For exchanges and custodians, yes — that is roughly half the affected stake, and it is a pledge problem, not a k problem. I have heard 'fix a0 first' since March 2021. a0 has not moved since. A sequencing argument that never sequences is just a permanent no. Do both. Do not hold k hostage to a pledge reform that nobody has brought on chain.\n'Delegators do not move.' Some do not, and they earn less until they do. That is the incentive working as designed — and it is the job of the wallets to make it obvious. Eternl, Lace, Yoroi: show the saturation warning clearly and suggest unsaturated pools. That is a UX request, not a reason to leave k at 500.\n'Last time it was tried we got more pools, not more operators.' That is the strongest point against and I take it seriously. The 2020 change landed in a bull market with the number of delegators tripling; nobody can say what k did on its own. What I can say is that the alternative — leaving the saturation point where it is — guarantees that nothing moves at all.\n'More pools cost more infrastructure.' A block producer and two relays is a small server bill. That is the price of decentralisation. Centralisation is always cheaper.\nWhat I want alongside this: pledge reform (a0 or CIP-50) brought on chain in parallel, not 'first'; the minPoolCost cut, which I am voting yes on; wallets that surface saturation and small pools; and an agreed way to measure entity-level decentralisation, so that next time we can tell whether it worked instead of arguing about it.\nThis poll cannot reach its own bar — more than half of all SPO stake voting yes has never happened outside a hard fork. So this is a signal. Mine is yes.\nSV — iFly (SWADA) röstar JA på att höja stakePoolTargetNum (k) från 500 till 1000.\nFörst mitt intresse: jag driver SWADA, en liten pool med ungefär 126 000 ada delegerat — 0,17 % av dagens mättnadspunkt. Jag räknade på belöningsformeln innan jag skrev det här: en fördubbling av k ändrar min pools belöning med ungefär 0,01 %. Jag röstar inte för min plånbok.\nDet jag vill ha är fler oberoende blockproducenter. Alla i den här debatten är överens om att det är målet. Stake har koncentrerats till några dussin operatörsgrupper, och hundratals kompetenta operatörer ligger under den nivå där en pool producerar block tillförlitligt. Diskussionen handlar bara om huruvida k är en spak som hjälper. Jag tror att den är det.\nMättnad är det enda tillfälle då en delegerare tvingas titta på sin pool. Med k=500 är en handfull pooler mättade och inget får någon att titta någonstans. Att halvera mättnadspunkten lägger ungefär tvåhundra pooler över gränsen och ger deras delegerare en anledning att öppna plånboken och välja igen. Inte alla stakepooloperatörer är influencers. Många av oss driver stabil infrastruktur — blockproducent, reläer, övervakning, uppgraderingar, år av drifttid — och har ingen YouTube-kanal eller följarskara på Twitter. Med dagens inställningar går delegeringen till den som hörs mest, och de tysta operatörerna blir aldrig sedda. En mättnadshändelse är det enda tillfälle då de tysta blir tittade på. Det är värt mycket för mig, och det är den del av debatten som nej-sidan aldrig berör.\nPå lång sikt bestämmer k hur många fullt belönade pooler nätverket rymmer. Med dagens stake är det ungefär 285 vid k=500 och ungefär 570 vid k=1000. De platserna fylls inte över en natt, men de formar nätverket för åren därefter. Jag bygger hellre utrymmet och låter delegeringen växa in i det än behåller taket där det är.\nMotargumenten, ärligt:\n'Den frigjorda staken går till samma operatörs syskonpooler.' För börser och förvaltare, ja — det är ungefär hälften av den berörda staken, och det är ett pledge-problem, inte ett k-problem. Jag har hört 'fixa a0 först' sedan mars 2021. a0 har inte rörts sedan dess. Ett ordningsargument som aldrig sätter någon ordning är bara ett permanent nej. Gör båda. Håll inte k som gisslan för en pledge-reform som ingen har lagt fram på kedjan.\n'Delegerare flyttar inte.' Vissa gör det inte, och de tjänar mindre tills de gör det. Det är incitamentet som fungerar som det är tänkt — och det är plånböckernas jobb att göra det tydligt. Eternl, Lace, Yoroi: visa mättnadsvarningen tydligt och föreslå omättade pooler. Det är en UX-begäran, inte ett skäl att lämna k på 500.\n'Förra gången fick vi fler pooler, inte fler operatörer.' Det är det starkaste motargumentet och jag tar det på allvar. Ändringen 2020 landade i en tjurmarknad där antalet delegerare tredubblades; ingen kan säga vad k gjorde på egen hand. Det jag kan säga är att alternativet — att lämna mättnadspunkten där den är — garanterar att ingenting rör sig alls.\n'Fler pooler kostar mer infrastruktur.' En blockproducent och två reläer är en liten serverräkning. Det är priset för decentralisering. Centralisering är alltid billigare.\nDet jag vill se vid sidan av detta: pledge-reform (a0 eller CIP-50) på kedjan parallellt, inte 'först'; sänkningen av minPoolCost, som jag röstar ja på; plånböcker som lyfter fram mättnad och små pooler; och ett överenskommet sätt att mäta decentralisering på entitetsnivå, så att vi nästa gång kan se om det fungerade i stället för att gräla om det.\nDen här omröstningen kan inte nå sin egen ribba — att mer än hälften av all SPO-stake röstar ja har aldrig hänt utanför en hard fork. Så det här är en signal. Min är ja." }, "hashAlgorithm": "blake2b-256" }
