# Privacy Policy for Quick Read **Last Updated:** January 28, 2026 **Publisher:** Tia Deleshnee Naidoo **Contact:** naidoo.tiad@gmail.com ## 1. Overview Quick Read ("the Extension") is a productivity tool designed to facilitate Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) speed reading. This policy outlines how data is handled, specifically regarding local processing and third-party OCR services. ## 2. Data Collection and Usage ### A. Local Data (Browser Storage) The Extension uses the Chrome `storage.local` API to save your user preferences, including: - Reading speed (WPM) - Font size settings - Theme preferences (Light/Dark mode) - The last text segment read (to save your progress) This data is stored locally on your device and is **never** transmitted to the developer or any tracking server. ### B. "Read Article" & "Read Pasted" Features When using the "Read Article" (DOM Scraper) or "Read Pasted" features, all text processing is performed locally within your browser using JavaScript. No text is sent to external servers. ### C. "Scan Image" Feature (OCR) When you use the "Scan Image" feature to extract text from a screenshot or image: 1. **Transmission:** The Extension captures a screenshot of your current tab or the specific image. 2. **Processing:** This image data is transmitted securely via HTTPS to the **OCR.space API** (a third-party Optical Character Recognition service). 3. **Retention:** According to the OCR.space Data Privacy Policy, images sent via their API are used solely for text extraction and are **deleted immediately** after processing. They are not stored in a database. 4. **Result:** The extracted text is returned to your browser for display in the Quick Read player. ## 3. Third-Party Services * **OCR.space API:** Used only for the "Scan Image" feature. [Link to OCR.space Privacy Policy] ## 4. User Tracking This Extension **does not** use Google Analytics, cookies, or any other tracking software to monitor your browsing history or behaviour. ## 5. Changes to this Policy We may update this policy to reflect changes in technical features. The latest version will always be available in the Extension's repository.
