TranXlate ("the Extension") is a browser extension that provides real-time, on-device translation for X (formerly Twitter) Direct Messages. This privacy policy explains how the Extension handles user data and ensures complete privacy for your conversations.

## Data Collection and Usage

### What Data We Access

The Extension accesses the following data locally in your browser:

1. **Authentication Cookies**
   - We access session cookies (`ct0`) from the x.com domain.
   - These cookies are used solely to authenticate an API request to X's servers to verify your account's subscription status.
   - Cookies are never transmitted to any servers we control or any third-party servers.

2. **Direct Message Content**
   - The text of your incoming and outgoing Direct Messages on x.com and chat.x.com.
   - Message text is passed directly to Google Chrome's built-in, on-device AI model (`window.ai.translator`) for translation.
   - Message content is processed entirely locally on your device and is never sent to the cloud, external translation APIs, or any third-party servers.

3. **User Preferences**
   - Your selected language preferences (e.g., your native language, reply overrides).
   - Your extension toggle state (Enabled/Deactivated).
   - Local cache of your subscription verification status.
   - All preferences are stored locally using Chrome's Extension Storage API and your browser's local storage.

### How We Use This Data

All data is processed **locally in your browser** to provide the following features:

- Automatically translate incoming Direct Messages into your preferred language.
- Format and translate your outgoing messages before they are sent.
- Remember your language settings between browsing sessions.
- Verify if your account holds an active Creator Subscription to bypass the donationware nag screen.

### Data Transmission

**Important:** The Extension does NOT transmit any of your private messages or data to servers we control. The Extension only communicates with:

- **Google Chrome's Local AI** - Your browser's built-in, on-device machine learning models for offline text translation.
- **X/Twitter's official servers** - Using your existing authentication to verify your subscription status.
- Your communication with X/Twitter is subject to [X's Privacy Policy](https://twitter.com/privacy).

### Data Storage

- Translation operations happen entirely in memory; message text is never logged or saved by the Extension.
- User preferences and subscription cache are stored locally on your device.
- No data persists on remote servers.
- All Extension data is removed when you uninstall the Extension or clear your browser data.

## Third-Party Services

The Extension only interacts with your local Chrome browser APIs and X/Twitter's official services:
- Google Chrome On-Device AI (`window.ai`)
- x.com / chat.x.com

## Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:
- All data processing happens locally in your browser on your own hardware.
- You can uninstall the Extension at any time to stop all data processing and translation.
- Clearing your browser data will remove all Extension preferences and cached verification tokens.
