The goal is to demonstrate, by hydrographic, chemical and biological measurements, mainly the effects of eutrophication. Also oxygen conditions and the presence of hydrogen sulphide are mapped.\r\nThe purpose of monitoring coastal fish populations every year is to estimate the condition of different species. This is an important starting point for assessing ecological status in coastal waters, and for monitoring biodiversity.\r\nThe macrovegetation is monitored to study long-term changes in the marine environment, caused primarily by changes in visibility, nutrient availability and physical impacts.\r\nSoft-bottom macrofauna is a subprogramme in the national environmental monitoring programme. The purpose is to investigate whether, and in what way, the structure of the bottom-living macrofauna changes.
