ישוע בר יהוסף

Yeshua'(?), son of Yehosef

ישוע בר יהוסף

Badly scratched ossuary has low feet and a flat, broken lid. Inscription appears on a narrow side (left or right) of the chest, preceded by a large cross-mark; incisions are clumsily carved and the first name is difficult to read. Another ossuary from this tomb, bearing the name "Yehuda, son of Yeshua'," corroborates the reading and perhaps belongs to this Yeshua's son (see inscription "jeru0197"). The form ישוע, familiar from the later books of the Bible and from the Talmud, is a contraction of the name יהושע.
