There is no network-facing path into amdgpu MMHUB fault handling.\nAC:L - Causing an MMHUB VM protection fault is fully attacker-controlled — submit multimedia/user-mode-queue work referencing unmapped GPU virtual addresses — and the resulting client ID (e.g. UMSCH 0x140, which the pre-fix code itself acknowledged occurs) exceeds the 31-entry table, so the out-of-bounds read happens deterministically and can be repeated at will.\nPR:L - Only unprivileged access to the DRM render node is needed; no capability check guards command submission or the fault interrupt path, and render nodes are open to the logged-in user, the render/video group, and GPU-enabled containers.\nUI:N - The attacker triggers the faulting GPU submission entirely from their own process; no victim action or interaction with any other user is required.\nS:U - The out-of-bounds read and its consequences stay within the kernel's own security authority on the affected host, with no crossing of a VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary.\nC:H - The read runs off the end of a 496-byte table by up to ~8 KB, and the out-of-bounds word is then dereferenced as a string by `dev_err(\"%s\")`, dumping the contents of an unbounded and unvalidated kernel address into the kernel log — an arbitrary kernel-memory disclosure, not a small bounded read.\nI:N - The defect is purely a read of out-of-bounds memory used for log formatting; no kernel data structure is written and the bug provides no write primitive.\nA:H - The out-of-bounds pointer passed to printk is dereferenced without probing, so a non-canonical or unmapped value oopses inside the GPU interrupt handling path, killing the display/graphics driver and panicking the system under panic_on_oops." } ] } ], "affected": [ { "product": "Linux", "vendor": "Linux", "defaultStatus": "unaffected", "repo": "https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git", "programFiles": [ "drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/mmhub_v3_3.c" ], "versions": [ { "version": "aba2be41470a11629c8378c3651323d7e5416df6", "lessThan": "e1e076bda4fd6378ae650f2c6ef1a4ff93c5aea5", "status": "affected", "versionType": "git" }, { "version": "aba2be41470a11629c8378c3651323d7e5416df6", "lessThan": "1f24b3040f2b6ffcb97151fabb3070328254d923", "status": "affected", "versionType": "git" }, { "version": "aba2be41470a11629c8378c3651323d7e5416df6", "lessThan": "6540ff6482c1a5a6890ae44b23d0852ba1986d9e", "status": "affected", "versionType": "git" } ] }, { "product": "Linux", "vendor": "Linux", "defaultStatus": "affected", "repo": "https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git", "programFiles": [ "drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/mmhub_v3_3.c" ], "versions": [ { "version": "6.7", "status": "affected" }, { "version": "0", "lessThan": "6.7", "status": "unaffected", "versionType": "semver" }, { "version": "6.7.11", "lessThanOrEqual": "6.7.*", "status": "unaffected", "versionType": "semver" }, { "version": "6.8.2", "lessThanOrEqual": "6.8.*", "status": "unaffected", "versionType": "semver" }, { "version": "6.9", "lessThanOrEqual": "*", "status": "unaffected", "versionType": "original_commit_for_fix" } ] } ], "cpeApplicability": [ { "nodes": [ { "operator": "OR", "negate": false, "cpeMatch": [ { "vulnerable": true, "criteria": "cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*", "versionStartIncluding": "6.7", "versionEndExcluding": "6.7.11" }, { "vulnerable": true, "criteria": "cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*", "versionStartIncluding": "6.7", "versionEndExcluding": "6.8.2" }, { "vulnerable": true, "criteria": "cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*", "versionStartIncluding": "6.7", "versionEndExcluding": "6.9" } ] } ] } ], "references": [ { "url": "https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/e1e076bda4fd6378ae650f2c6ef1a4ff93c5aea5" }, { "url": "https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/1f24b3040f2b6ffcb97151fabb3070328254d923" }, { "url": "https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/6540ff6482c1a5a6890ae44b23d0852ba1986d9e" } ], "title": "drm/amdgpu: fix mmhub client id out-of-bounds access", "x_generator": { "engine": "bippy-1.2.0" } }, "adp": [ { "providerMetadata": { "orgId": "af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108", "shortName": "CVE", "dateUpdated": "2024-08-02T00:21:05.943Z" }, "title": "CVE Program Container", "references": [ { "url": "https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/e1e076bda4fd6378ae650f2c6ef1a4ff93c5aea5", "tags": [ "x_transferred" ] }, { "url": "https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/1f24b3040f2b6ffcb97151fabb3070328254d923", "tags": [ "x_transferred" ] }, { "url": "https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/6540ff6482c1a5a6890ae44b23d0852ba1986d9e", "tags": [ "x_transferred" ] } ] }, { "metrics": [ { "other": { "type": "ssvc", "content": { "id": "CVE-2024-27029", "role": "CISA Coordinator", "options": [ { "Exploitation": "none" }, { "Automatable": "no" }, { "Technical Impact": "partial" } ], "version": "2.0.3", "timestamp": "2024-09-10T15:44:24.346922Z" } } } ], "title": "CISA ADP Vulnrichment", "providerMetadata": { "orgId": "134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0", "shortName": "CISA-ADP", "dateUpdated": "2024-09-11T17:33:34.039Z" } } ] } }
