No received packet or remote peer data reaches `xt_find_table_lock()`.\nAC:H - The buggy return is only reachable while the table's module is in `MODULE_STATE_GOING` and its template has already been unregistered — i.e. inside the window between `xt_unregister_template()` and `unregister_pernet_subsys()` in the module's exit path. The attacker can spin `getsockopt` to make the collision near-certain once teardown starts, but cannot initiate the unload, so a system state outside their control must coincide.\nPR:L - `do_ip6t_get_ctl()` gates only on `ns_capable(sock_net(sk)->user_ns, CAP_NET_ADMIN)`, which any unprivileged user obtains with `unshare -Urn`; the same call also drives `table_init()` to register the table in the attacker's own netns, so no real root is needed for the attacker-controlled half.\nUI:N - The attacker issues the socket option calls itself and no victim has to open a file, mount anything, or interact with attacker content; the module-unload precondition is accounted for under Attack Complexity.\nS:U - The unreferenced table, the freed slab object, and the corrupted module refcount all live inside the kernel's own security authority, with no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary crossed.\nC:H - After `xt_table_unlock()` drops the mutex the `xt_table` is `kfree()`d by the concurrent `xt_unregister_table()`, so `module_put(t->me)` reads a pointer out of freed slab memory; per use-after-free scoring, control of the reallocated object's contents makes that pointer attacker-influenced and yields a kernel-memory read primitive.\nI:H - `module_put()` performs `atomic_dec_if_positive()` through the stale `t->me`, a write into freed memory — either the vfree'd `struct module` or, with heap spraying of the freed `xt_table`, an attacker-chosen address, giving a decrement primitive leverageable toward kernel memory corruption and premature unload of an in-use module.\nA:H - The reported symptom is a `WARN_ON` refcount-underflow splat in `module_put()`, which is a full panic on the many fleets running `panic_on_warn=1`, and dereferencing the freed table pointer readily oopses or trips KASAN." } ] } ], "affected": [ { "product": "Linux", "vendor": "Linux", "defaultStatus": "unaffected", "repo": "https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git", "programFiles": [ "net/netfilter/x_tables.c" ], "versions": [ { "version": "fdacd57c79b79a03c7ca88f706ad9fb7b46831c1", "lessThan": "ba22ea01348384df19cc1fabc7964be6e7189749", "status": "affected", "versionType": "git" }, { "version": "fdacd57c79b79a03c7ca88f706ad9fb7b46831c1", "lessThan": "cb7c388b5967946f097afdb759b7c860305f2d96", "status": "affected", "versionType": "git" }, { "version": "fdacd57c79b79a03c7ca88f706ad9fb7b46831c1", "lessThan": "6a1f088f9807f5166f58902d26246d0b88da03a8", "status": "affected", "versionType": "git" }, { "version": "fdacd57c79b79a03c7ca88f706ad9fb7b46831c1", "lessThan": "bab3bb35c03b263c486833d50d50c081d9e9832b", "status": "affected", "versionType": "git" }, { "version": "fdacd57c79b79a03c7ca88f706ad9fb7b46831c1", "lessThan": "f48d258f0ac540f00fa617dac496c4c18b5dc2fa", "status": "affected", "versionType": "git" } ] }, { "product": "Linux", "vendor": "Linux", "defaultStatus": "affected", "repo": "https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git", "programFiles": [ "net/netfilter/x_tables.c" ], "versions": [ { "version": "5.15", "status": "affected" }, { "version": "0", "lessThan": "5.15", "status": "unaffected", "versionType": "semver" }, { "version": "5.15.171", "lessThanOrEqual": "5.15.*", "status": "unaffected", "versionType": "semver" }, { "version": "6.1.116", "lessThanOrEqual": "6.1.*", "status": "unaffected", "versionType": "semver" }, { "version": "6.6.60", "lessThanOrEqual": "6.6.*", "status": "unaffected", "versionType": "semver" }, { "version": "6.11.7", "lessThanOrEqual": "6.11.*", "status": "unaffected", "versionType": "semver" }, { "version": "6.12", "lessThanOrEqual": "*", "status": "unaffected", "versionType": "original_commit_for_fix" } ] } ], "cpeApplicability": [ { "nodes": [ { "operator": "OR", "negate": false, "cpeMatch": [ { "vulnerable": true, "criteria": "cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*", "versionStartIncluding": "5.15", "versionEndExcluding": "5.15.171" }, { "vulnerable": true, "criteria": "cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*", "versionStartIncluding": "5.15", "versionEndExcluding": "6.1.116" }, { "vulnerable": true, "criteria": "cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*", "versionStartIncluding": "5.15", "versionEndExcluding": "6.6.60" }, { "vulnerable": true, "criteria": "cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*", "versionStartIncluding": "5.15", "versionEndExcluding": "6.11.7" }, { "vulnerable": true, "criteria": "cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*", "versionStartIncluding": "5.15", "versionEndExcluding": "6.12" } ] } ] } ], "references": [ { "url": "https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/ba22ea01348384df19cc1fabc7964be6e7189749" }, { "url": "https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/cb7c388b5967946f097afdb759b7c860305f2d96" }, { "url": "https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/6a1f088f9807f5166f58902d26246d0b88da03a8" }, { "url": "https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/bab3bb35c03b263c486833d50d50c081d9e9832b" }, { "url": "https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/f48d258f0ac540f00fa617dac496c4c18b5dc2fa" } ], "title": "netfilter: Fix use-after-free in get_info()", "x_generator": { "engine": "bippy-1.2.0" } }, "adp": [ { "metrics": [ { "cvssV3_1": { "scope": "UNCHANGED", "version": "3.1", "baseScore": 7.8, "attackVector": "LOCAL", "baseSeverity": "HIGH", "vectorString": "CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H", "integrityImpact": "HIGH", "userInteraction": "NONE", "attackComplexity": "LOW", "availabilityImpact": "HIGH", "privilegesRequired": "LOW", "confidentialityImpact": "HIGH" } }, { "other": { "type": "ssvc", "content": { "id": "CVE-2024-50257", "role": "CISA Coordinator", "options": [ { "Exploitation": "none" }, { "Automatable": "no" }, { "Technical Impact": "total" } ], "version": "2.0.3", "timestamp": "2024-12-11T14:25:40.458302Z" } } } ], "problemTypes": [ { "descriptions": [ { "lang": "en", "type": "CWE", "cweId": "CWE-416", "description": "CWE-416 Use After Free" } ] } ], "title": "CISA ADP Vulnrichment", "providerMetadata": { "orgId": "134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0", "shortName": "CISA-ADP", "dateUpdated": "2024-12-11T14:58:32.580Z" } }, { "title": "CVE Program Container", "references": [ { "url": "https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2025/01/msg00001.html" } ], "providerMetadata": { "orgId": "af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108", "shortName": "CVE", "dateUpdated": "2025-11-03T22:27:37.629Z" } } ] } }
