One container, SQLite, and your books stay plain files in your folders. The library is a shelf of spines, a shelf for each genre, with covers and a sortable list one switch away. One book holds all its editions: EPUB, AZW3 and MOBI of a book are one edition, and the e-book and the audiobook stand side by side, each with its own place. The reader opens EPUB, MOBI, AZW3 and PDF. The player plays an audiobook of many files as one, with chapters, speed and a sleep timer. Several people each have their own place, wish list and reading stack, and the operator sees neither progress nor history. Browse shelves by topic, best sellers and the gaps in your series, and every author has a page with all their works. With your own indexers and a download program nexbooks can fetch books: it judges every hit by author, title, volume, language and format, and files a book only if it is the one you wished. nexbooks comes with no indexers and no sources of books, and you are responsible for loading only content you may use. Kindle, OPDS, KOReader and Kobo (beta) connect as e-readers. A second factor is required from the start, passkeys are supported, and accounts come by invitation or through OpenID Connect (one-button setup for authentik). This is an early release: keep a backup and open an issue when something is wrong. Open the WebUI and create the first account; it becomes the operator. It needs the setup code from the container log (click the nexbooks icon, then Logs), a new one at every start until nexbooks is set up. To choose the code yourself, set Setup Code below. Right after the password the account sets up its second factor. Then make a library of a folder at or below /books in Settings, Libraries. Books is mapped read-only at first, and nexbooks changes nothing in it. To file fetched books there, or to turn on tidying (renaming and moving by a scheme), set Books to read/write. To fetch books, map the folder where your download program puts finished jobs to /downloads; a path the program reports differently is mapped once in nexbooks. Put nexbooks behind a reverse proxy with TLS before you use it from anywhere but your own network, then set Public URL and Trusted Proxies. Passkeys and notices on a phone need https. All data lives under /data: the SQLite database, covers, secret.key, backups and logs. Keep it on a local disk, never on an SMB or NFS share, because SQLite locking is not reliable over network filesystems. A backup holds the database, settings, covers and photos but not the books, so those belong in the backup your server makes anyway. Set PUID and PGID to the user that should own the files and can read your books. 99 and 100 are the Unraid defaults and work out of the box. bridge [PORT:8580] 8000 tcp /mnt/user/appdata/nexbooks /data rw /mnt/user/books /books ro 99PUID 100PGID TZ NEXBOOKS_SETUP_TOKEN NEXBOOKS_PUBLIC_URL NEXBOOKS_TRUSTED_PROXIES NEXBOOKS_PORT NEXBOOKS_SECRET_KEY autoNEXBOOKS_COOKIE_SECURE 8580 /mnt/user/appdata/nexbooks /mnt/user/books 99 100 auto
