Riff is a Spotify client that puts your music library front and center. It features a clean, minimal design that lets you listen distraction-free.

Note: Riff requires a Spotify Premium account. Some accounts may not work due to Spotify's new PlayPlay DRM, which is proprietary and cannot be implemented externally.

This release fixes a playback issue and adds some polish for Flathub

This release focuses on improving the listening experience and navigation of your music library. It includes redesigned pages, a configurable audio engine, improved search, and more.

New features:

  • Like Songs: a star button on hover lets you like or unlike tracks in playlists, albums, and the queue.
  • Follow or unfollow artists, albums, and playlists directly from their pages.
  • Saved Artists page: browse all your followed artists from the sidebar.
  • Audio engine with a 10-band equalizer, stereo pan, pitch shift, mono audio, volume curves, and configurable audio formats.
  • Close window behavior: choose to quit or keep running in the background when closing while music plays.
  • Playlist context menus: right-click or long-press playlists in the sidebar for quick actions.
  • Sidebar pagination: all your playlists now load in the sidebar.
  • Shuffle play button on album, artist, and playlist pages.
  • Searchable via "Spotify" in desktop app launchers.
  • Improved logout that clears your session, credentials, and cached state.
  • Improved search that finds tracks and playlists, and can be scoped to artists only.
  • Filter an artist's releases by albums, singles, and compilations.
  • Automatic Spotify link detection for easier sharing.
  • Filter explicit tracks to exclude them from your listening.

  • Fixed pages loading duplicate content when scrolling quickly.
  • Fixed playback controls getting out of sync when a new track starts.
  • Fixed a crash when a non-Premium account tried to log in; invalid credentials are no longer saved.
  • Expired tokens now refresh automatically and requests are retried.
  • Fixed an index-out-of-bounds crash on partially loaded shuffled playlists.
  • Fixed long playlist and album titles pushing the play button off-screen.
  • Fixed inconsistent album cover sizes in the library grid.
  • Fixed the PipeWire audio backend not working correctly in Flatpak.
  • Improved keyring reliability on startup with automatic retries.
  • Librespot sessions are now more stable and self-heal to prevent playback interruptions.
  • Accounts affected by Spotify's PlayPlay DRM now get a clear notice.

Disabled features (available in the Experimental Feature Panel):

  • Selection mode for selecting multiple tracks at once.
  • Device selector for switching playback between Spotify Connect devices.
  • Create new playlist button in the sidebar.

Beta feature (opt in via the Experimental Feature Panel):

  • Audio normalisation to automatically adjust tracks to a standard loudness.

Known issues:

  • Podcasts and audiobooks are not supported.
  • Creating and managing playlists is not supported.
  • There is no Home or Suggestions page for discovering new media.
  • Viewing lyrics for the current track is not supported.
  • The track list widget has some visual bugs.
  • Some translations and localizations are missing or incorrect.
  • Some UI elements load slowly.
  • There is no default art for missing artist or album images.

This new maintenance release brings simple but fundamental changes.
