To Moses Austin,—Gentleman:

Know You, That from the special Trust and Confidence reposed in your Fidelity, Courage, Activity, and good Conduct, and upon the Recommendation of the Court of the County of Wythe, our Governor, pursuant to the Act for regulating the Militia of this Commonwealth, doth appoint you the said Moses Austin Captain of a Company of the Second Battalion, of the thirty-fifth Regiment of the said Militia, to take Rank as such, agreeably to the number thereof.

In Testimony whereof, These our Letters are Sealed with the Seal of the Commonwealth, and made Patent.

Witness, Robert Brooke, Esquire, our said Governor, at Richmond, this 23d. day of March 1796.
