Jackson 22nd December 1821
S. F. Austin Esqr
Permit me to introduce to your particular acquaintance Capt
Dixon the bearer of this, as he intends visiting the province of
Texas, for the purpose of being a useful citizen in the bounds of
your settlement—He has lately been employed in surveying public
Lands in the State of Missouri and Illinois, and whose capability,
steadiness and integraty, has met the cordial approbation of his
employers as well as general Government—Any friendship that you
may think proper to extend toward him, in that line, or any other
that may be beneficial to him, will be acknowledged by your friend
and humble servt
Erasmus Ellis [Rubric]
P. S. I wrote to you last month when I was at my Brothers on
the coast, and I hope you will spare time enough to give me general
information of that country; and particularly what kind of
Mechanics are most in demand there at present—
With respect I am yours etc
