Debtors in Texas. Slavery.

Alexandria [Louisiana] April 15. 1824

Dr Sir.

Many persons having left this place who are indebt to me and having gone to your section of the c'try—I am induced to trespass on you in making the inquiry, whether their property can be pursued before your tribunals for debts contracted here? and if so what step should be taken to do it.—I have of debts due me and which are in my hands for collection about 20,000 against citizens of the province all of whom are slave holders. Your politeness in answering this note would confer on me a singular favor.

J° Thoma

Hon. Stephen F. Austin
