GregTech Machinery Tiers
GregTech has many machines and tools that can be classified into different tiers. Machines in a same tier usually have similar characteristics.
This page is still a work in progress, so things might change!
Before Machines: Flint Age
- Key Item: Flint (128 durability)
- Tools: Flint Mortar, Flint Sword, Flint Pickaxe, Flint Shovel, Flint Axe, Flint Hoe, Crops
- Description: By default, GregTech nerfs the durability of Wooden and Stone tools from 60 and 132 uses to 13 and 49 uses respectively. To compensate for this loss, GregTech provides Flint tools which have nearly the same durability has the original Stone tools. Also the tier of potatoes on sticks.
- Progress to next tier: Use the mortar to grind Copper and Tin into dusts. Afterwards, combine 3 Copper + 1 Tin Dusts to get 2 Bronze Dusts. Smelt the Bronze Dust to get Bronze Ingots.
Tier 0: Bronze Age
- Key Item: Bronze (250 durability)
- Power type: Steam
- Tools: Bronze tools, Bronze armour, Saw, Hammer, Wrench
- Machines: Sturdy Grinder, Squeezing Extractor, Small Coal Boiler, Steam-powered Forge Hammer, Steam Furnace, Steam Alloy Smelter, Bronze Blast Furnace.
- Description: GregTech nerfs the standard electrical machinery to require Steel and rubber to require the Squeezing Extractor. Hence, you need to power your bronze machines with a Small Coal Boiler that accepts Coal, Charcoal, and Coal Coke for fuel. Afterwards, use 300 Bronze to craft a Bronze Blast Furnace which can smelt Iron and Coal/Charcoal/Coal Coke into Steel.

Tier 1: Electric/Steel Age
- Key Item: Steel (500 durability), Rubber
- Power type: Electricity
- Tools: Steel tools
- Electricity: Low Voltage (32 EU/t), Tin Cable, BatBox
- Machines: Generator, Automatic Extractor, Automatic Compressor, Automatic E-Furnace, Plate Bending Machine, Assembly Machine, Automatic Wiremill, Ore Washing Plant, Alloy Furnace
- Description: The first tier of electrical machinery. Fuel your Generator with burnable materials such as Wood, Sugar Cane, or Coal and power your electrical machinery. This is the first step in efficiency; you only need 1 ingot to produce plates, use the Automatic Wiremill to make more cables from your metal ingots and can use the Assembly Machine to only need 6 plates instead of 8 to make Machine Hulls.

Tier 2: Electronics Age
- Key Item: Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Rubber, Carbon
- Power type: Electricity, Steam, Minecraft Joules
- Tools: Electric tools
- Electricity: Medium Voltage (128 EU/t), Copper Cable, CESU
- Machines: Green Generators (Windmill, Watermill, Solar Panel), Induction Furnace, Industrial Centrifuge, Industrial Electrolyzer, Multiblock Machinery such as Industrial Grinder and Blast Furnace.
- Description: The second tier of electrical machinery. After improving on machines with materials from the mysterious Nether such as Glowstone Dust, you get your next step in efficiency: you can start ore doubling and obtain byproducts. You can also start utilizing multiblock machinery such as the Industrial Blast Furnace for making Stainless Steel and the Industrial Grinder for improving ore production. Stainless Steel will prove very useful, not only for electric/rechargeable tools, but for core machines such as the Industrial Centrifuge.
- Progress to next tier: Begin producing Chrome from Ruby Dust/Redstone and Titanium from Bauxite
Tier 3 - Chrometanium Age
- Key Item: Chrome, Titanium
- Power type: Electricity, Steam, Minecraft Joules
- Tools: NanoSuit, Mining Laser [WIP]
- Electricity: High Voltage (512 EU/t), Gold Cable, MFE
- Machines: Mid range temp Blast Furnace (around 2400K), Industrial Electroyzer, Industrial Centrifuge [WIP]
- Description: After getting the necessary equipment to produce Chrome and Titanium, you work on getting more of said resources, to upgrade your Blast Furnace, and make better armour and tools. [WIP]
- Progress to next tier: Upgrade your machinery to produce tungstensteel.
Tier 4 - Fission Age
- Key Item: Uranium, Plutonium, Chrome, Tungsten, Tungstensteel
- Power type: Electricity, Steam, Minecraft Joules
- Tools: Advanced Drill, Advanced Chainsaw, Advanced Wrench, Tungstensteel Tools, Hazmat Suit
- Electricity: Extreme Voltage (2048 EU/t), HV Cable, MFSU
- Machines: Nuclear Reactor, Vacuum Freezer, 3000K (Max temp) Blast Furnace, Thermal Centrifuge, Canning Machine, RTG Generator
- Description: You succeed in making Tungsten Steel, so improve your normal and electric tools. Your goal is now to get and process enough Uranium to run your reactor and getting enough Chrome and other resources needed for a Mass Fabricator, crucial for getting enough Iridium for the future. [WIP]

Tier 5 - Quantum Age
- Key Item: Chrome, Iridium, Tungstensteel
- Power type: Electricity, Steam, Minecraft Joules
- Tools: QuantumSuit, Iridium Drill, Nano Sabre
- Electricity: Insane Voltage (8192 EU/t), Glass Fibre Cable, AESU, IDSU
- Machines: Mass Fabricator, Implosion Compressor, Recycler, (Optionally) Distillation Tower
- Description: With your power generation high and stable, you begin further upgrading your armour to the highest tier (Quantum Suit), upgrading your tools and weapons and potentially making Buildcraft Fuel/Forestry Ethanol production more efficient using a Distillation Tower. Afterwards, you begin the long hard track to getting enough Chrome to make a fusion reactor while making scrap for your mass fabricator, for the goal of cheaper Reinforced Iridium Plates. [WIP]

Tier 6 - Fusion Age
- Key Item: Chrome, Iridium, Tungstensteel, Helium Plasma
- Power type: Electricity, Steam, Plasma
- Tools: [WIP]
- Electricity: Above 8192 EU/t, Superconductor (Superconductors not currently working, just use normal cable)
- Machines: Fusion Reactor, Plasma Generators, Industrial Centrifuges, Industrial Electrolyzers
- Description: Build a self sustaining Fusion Reactor using Plasma Generators to generate power from your fusion to feed Industrial Centrifuges and Electrolyzers, which are required to keep making the fusing resources. [WIP]
