Introduction:
The Sturdy Grinder is a steam powered Macerator-like machine. It is primarily used for getting byproducts from ores, for use in advancing to later tiers. However, (as of v4.08a) it also will increase the output of ore blocks by 1 Nugget.It uses the same recipe list as the Universal Macerator, however all outputs and byproduct chances for Ore Blocks are halved.
The sturdy grinder can speed advancement to the steel/electrical by very slightly increasing Cassiterite output. It is the only way to create Chrome and Manganese dusts without an Industrial Centrifuge (which requires both Chrome and Manganese to create).
Note that this machine can be bypassed by raiding enough dungeon chests for the necessary Chrome and Manganese dust, unless you want (and you should) to craft an Automatic Macerator before you go for your Industrial Centrifuge. (Crafting an Automatic Macerator requires an Advanced Circuit, which requires Lapis Dust, which can only be acquired with either a Macerator or Sturdy Grinder. Unless you really REALLY want to try your luck that hard with Scrapboxes.)
The Ores that convert into Crushed [metal] Ore can be put through an Ore Washer to very slightly increase ore yield, but a Macerator is a far better investment. Although, Crushed Ores smelt into 10 metal Nuggets, rather than 1 metal Ingot. This means you can get an extra ingot per 9 ore (not great, but you still make a profit over a furnace).
