# Licensing Policy

GlyphCompress uses a dual-license model designed to keep open-source use available while protecting proprietary and commercial product value.

This document explains the project position for evaluators. It is not legal advice and is not a substitute for a signed commercial agreement.

## Public License

The public repository and npm package are licensed under AGPL-3.0-only unless a separate written commercial agreement applies.

AGPL-3.0-only is intentionally strong copyleft. If a modified version is used over a network, the AGPL source availability obligations may apply. Teams that cannot meet those obligations should request a commercial license before integration.

## Commercial License Gate

Commercial rights are not granted automatically by downloading, installing, forking, importing, embedding, or using the package.

A commercial license is required for proprietary use cases such as:

- Closed-source products, internal tools, IDE extensions, SDKs, CLIs, or plugins.
- Hosted services, SaaS, managed platforms, or developer portals.
- Private redistribution to customers, contractors, affiliates, or marketplace users.
- Bundling with paid products, enterprise AI tooling, or managed support offerings.
- Forks, wrappers, modified versions, or derived works that will not be released under AGPL-3.0-only.

## Reserved Rights

All rights not expressly granted by AGPL-3.0-only or a separate written commercial agreement are reserved.

No trademark, endorsement, certification, or branding rights are granted. The GlyphCompress name, logo, protocol branding, documentation, benchmarks, generated examples, and distribution channels may not be used to imply sponsorship or commercial authorization without written permission.

## Contributions

Contributions must be compatible with the dual-license model. By submitting a contribution, contributors confirm that the project maintainer may use, modify, distribute, sublicense, and relicense the contribution under AGPL-3.0-only and separate commercial license terms.

Contributors should not submit employer-owned, confidential, customer-owned, generated, or third-party material unless they have the rights needed for this contribution model.
