# PgQ: History

- **2006** — PgQ started at Skype. Inspired by Slony.
- **2007** — Open-sourced as part of Skytools. First app: Londiste replication.
- **2009** — Skytools 3: cascading, cooperative consumers. PgCon talk by
  Marko Kreen & Martin Pihlak

- **2026** — PgQue: PG14+ single-file repackage for managed databases.

## Lineage

PgQ (Skype, ISC) → Skytools 2/3 → `github.com/pgq/pgq` → **PgQue**
(Apache-2.0, PG14+).

Skype ran hundreds of queues on PgQ in production; PgQue inherits that engine rather than reinventing it.
