--- name: ice-styles description: >- Internal part of Ice Motion Director, not a command: start with /ice. Style catalogs for motion films: 51 film styles, 15 motion design styles, 32 drawing styles (hands), 36 implemented art-history styles plus 17 research recipes, 9 narration grammars for voiceover-led explainers, 10 opener style directions and 6 explainer looks, a broadcast news family (the presenter news reel genre, three measured programme packages, sub-brand patterns, the glass studio reel), and a credited index of the community Opus 5.5 prompt library. Each entry gives look, medium-specific moves, palette, sound, when to use, when not to use and common mistakes. Called by Ice Motion Director workflows; use only when called by name. license: Apache-2.0 metadata: author: Omar-Tnzxo version: 0.2.7 --- # ice-styles Holds the style catalogs. A workflow (ice-film, ice-explainer, ice-remake, ice-edit, ice-lottie, ice-ideas) opens this skill to shortlist styles for a brief, to load the full entry of a chosen style, or to pick a narration grammar. Direction decisions (which style wins) are made in the ice-direction skill. ## The one rule: a style is a starting reference, never a default - Never apply a style because it is listed first, because it is the nearest match to a keyword, or because a demo exists. Shortlist at least three candidates from at least two families and hand them to ice-direction for the pitch round. - An entry locks the medium (look, palette logic, motion quality, camera vocabulary, sound palette). The brief decides everything else: subject, structure, opening, ending, copy, exact colours. Never take a demo's story, shots, props, composition or timeline. - A film made in a catalog style Ice picked must still differ from that style's demo and from any bundled template on at least 4 of 6 axes. A style the user named is exempt on the axes it fixes (`ice-direction/references/anti-sameness.md` section 4a); it still never takes the demo's story, shots or timeline. That gate, its six axes, the per-project fingerprint and the default-look gate are owned by the ice-direction skill, `references/anti-sameness.md` (decision), and the ice-qa skill (check); run them there. Because a style fixes the medium, a style film wins its difference on the axes the style leaves open (structure and layout above all), never by recolouring. - Every example, palette value and scene inside an entry is illustration only. A Sound line names the genre and instruments as the target for real library tracks and recorded SFX; it never makes sound by code a default (`ice-audio/SKILL.md` core rule 7), and loudness comes from the `ice-audio` profile table. ## Procedure 1. Read `ice/BRIEF.md`. Note film type, goal, audience, platform, mood, industry, language, brand inputs and available real material. 2. If the user named a style, find it in `references/catalog-index.md` (name, alias or id) and open its family file. No clear match: show the two or three closest and ask once. 3. Otherwise shortlist from the selection tables below: take candidates from the film-type row, cross-check against the mood, audience and industry rows, keep the ones that appear in two or more rows, and add at least one less obvious candidate from another family. Open each candidate's entry and drop any whose "Do not use when" collides with the brief. 4. For a voiceover-led film, also pick the narration grammar per section from `references/narration-grammars-1.md`. 5. Pass the shortlist (with one line per candidate: why it fits, what it risks) to ice-direction. After approval, write the style lock (see `references/style-method.md` section 4) into the shot table and log the choice in `ice/DIRECTION.md` with its source entry. At 05, copy the chosen entry's craft profile (its family default line plus its own line) into `ice/plan/craft-plan.json`, as the `Craft:` line of `references/style-method.md` section 4 says. 6. During production, keep the chosen entry open; check every frame against its "Medium-specific moves" and "Common mistakes". ## Selection by film type (film types follow the ice-film and ice-edit type files) | Film type | Candidates (family file) | |---|---| | Product launch (physical) | glass product render, exploded teardown, 3D render CGI (screen-tech-3d, evidence-data);
