## About
**Sonic the Fighters Recompiled DX** is an unofficial native Windows port of the Xbox 360 XBLA release of *Sonic the Fighters*, continuing the work of **Sonic The Fighters Recompiled**..
The project uses RexGlue / RexGL to run the game natively on PC without Xenia or a full Xbox 360 emulation environment.
The original game is **not included**. You need your own legally acquired Xbox 360 (or PlayStation 3) copy of *Sonic the Fighters*.

## Installation
You need a legally acquired copy of the Xbox 360 XBLA version of *Sonic the Fighters* (World).
The installer expects the following game file, found on your Xbox 360 hard drive in `Content\0000000000000000\5841129E\000D0000`:
```text
17DB4B597093061B64BFC3E0BCB000BFF14EACBB58
```
To install:
1. Download and extract the latest release.
2. Run the game. The installer opens on the first launch, while the game data isn't installed yet.
3. Select a language (English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish or Italian).
4. Add the game file (or a folder that contains it) from your own dump.
5. Wait for verification and installation. The game starts when it's done.
Modified or unsupported game files will fail verification.
The installer is a port of [Unleashed Recompiled](https://github.com/hedge-dev/UnleashedRecomp)'s, using the game's own fonts, button prompts and sounds (built from `_unpacked` when compiling).

## Build Info
Make sure you have installed: VS 2022 with C++ Build Tools, WinSDK, LLVM Clang 18+ (the ReXGlue SDK requires Clang), CMake, Ninja, .net sdk 10. ReXGlue included.
Game-specific hooks and extra function entry points live in `stf_xbla_manifest.toml`, so the generated sources are never edited by hand. `prepare-game.ps1` checks that `default.xex` is the expected version before generating code.
To compile all project:
1. Make folder in project root `_unpacked` and add unpacked game into this folder (unpacked game you can get after succesfull installer of Sonic the Fighters Recompiled.
2. Open PowerShell in the project root.
3. Compile the game:
```powershell
powershell.exe -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\tools\prepare-game.ps1
.\tools\build-game.cmd
```
4. Compile the installer:
```powershell
powershell.exe -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\PublicRelease\build-installer.ps1
```

## Known Issues
This is an early release, so there are still some problems to fix.
- Local multiplayer (two controllers, or keyboard versus controller) has not
been tested yet.
- Original Xbox Live functionality (online battles, leaderboards) is not supported.
The servers are gone; the game shows its own "Xbox LIVE" messages instead.
- The game logic runs at a fixed 60 steps per second, as on Xbox 360, so frame
rates above 60 FPS are not possible without per-object interpolation.
- Mod compatibility has not been tested yet.
---
## Roadmap
Things I would like to work on in future versions:
- Russian localization
- Linux support
- Nintendo Switch `.nro` port
- Modding support
- More graphics and recompilation settings
- Anti-aliasing options
- Online multiplayer
- Compatibility and stability fixes
- General quality-of-life improvements
These are development goals, not promises for a particular release.

## Technical Details
The project is built on the **RexGlue / RexGL** runtime stack.
RexGlue / RexGL provides the underlying recompilation and runtime technology. The work on this project is focused on getting *Sonic the Fighters* working correctly with that runtime and turning it into a usable Windows release.
This included work on platform and runtime integration, input, keyboard remapping, saves, additional settings, compatibility fixes, debugging, testing, the installer and release packaging.
Development originally started with **XenonRecomp** before moving to RexGlue / RexGL.
