# GetTranscript privacy policy Effective October 3, 2026. Version 1.3.1. GetTranscript runs locally in your browser. It has no developer-operated service, analytics, advertising or account system. The developer does not receive your transcripts. ## What the extension accesses When you open GetTranscript, temporary active-tab access permits it to inspect the current video page, its readable caption tracks, its transcript panel and the current Stream recording's structured transcript data. This may include the page title, recording URL, media duration, caption language, spoken text, timestamps and existing speaker labels. Same-origin embedded documents may be inspected as part of that page. If you use Combine recordings, you choose recording links from the same website as the source tab. Find links on source reads existing Stream links exposed by that page; it does not guess filenames or scan a recording library. Reading visits your selected recordings in the source tab. The extension temporarily remembers playback position, paused state, volume, mute and speed to restore the starting player after collection, unless you have navigated elsewhere. Existing website sign-in and access permissions still apply. Referenced caption resources may be fetched directly from their existing host. Same-origin requests use the browser’s existing authentication; cross-origin requests do not include credentials. For Stream, GetTranscript reads item metadata and visible transcript content on the current page's origin. If needed, it briefly observes the player's requests for that exact recording and reuses an authorization header already issued to the player. It may open the transcript panel to trigger the player's normal request, then restores the changed controls. This does not grant new access or override a denied request. Authentication values are used only in memory during that read, then discarded. They are never written to extension storage, included in exports or sent to the developer. GetTranscript does not read the browser's cookie store, decrypt download payloads or create a separate Microsoft application. It restores the temporary request observer when the read ends. ## Storage and sharing Transcript content, selected caption tracks, export options and download status are held per source tab in `chrome.storage.session`, the browser’s temporary in-memory extension storage. Multipart collections also hold ordered recording URLs, titles, durations, offsets, selected languages and resumable progress checkpoints. Canonical recording identities prevent one recording’s content from being reused for another. A background worker continues a user-requested scan or export when the popup or collection workspace closes; reopening restores the job or result. No transcript history is saved to persistent extension storage. Selecting Download saves the chosen text file or ZIP through the browser download manager. Combined Markdown, text and JSON can include the recording links when the Include links to recordings option is enabled. Downloaded files and browser download history remain under your control. Only export format and the two speaker display preferences are stored in `chrome.storage.local`. They are not synchronized by GetTranscript. There is no transcript history database. GetTranscript does not send your content to an AI provider, the developer or another cloud processing service. It does not sell data. Store data-use disclosures cover locally processed website content, personal communications in meeting transcripts, and personally identifiable information such as speaker names. These disclosures describe what the extension accesses, not data received by the developer. GetTranscript uses this data solely for its transcript-export purpose and complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. It does not use or transfer data for advertising, creditworthiness or lending. ## Controls and deletion You choose when to open the extension, which recordings to collect and when to download. Refresh replaces the current tab’s cached result. Refresh collection clears captured content and progress while retaining its links, order and options for a fresh read. Collections can be paused, resumed or have individual parts removed. Closing the source tab clears its single-page session, collection and checkpoint. Navigating to another recording causes the popup to check its identity and read that recording. Browser restart, extension reload/update or disabling the extension also clears temporary sessions. Delete downloaded files through your operating system and clear download history in the browser if desired. Removing the extension removes its local preferences according to your browser’s extension storage lifecycle. ## Permissions - `activeTab`: temporary access to the source tab you select through the extension toolbar, including user-selected same-origin recordings during collection. - `scripting`: read captions, transcript labels, durations and exposed recording links in the page’s execution context, and remember/restore player state. - `downloads`: save a chosen export and confirm its download state. - `storage`: remember export preferences locally and retain per-tab jobs, results, collections, recording URLs and progress checkpoints in temporary session memory. No persistent host permissions, cookie permission, browsing-history permission or debugger permission are requested. ## Support and privacy contact For questions, use the [project support page](https://github.com/RobinMJD/GetTranscript/issues).
