FocusLens — Privacy Policy

1. Overview
FocusLens is a browser extension designed to help users maintain focused study sessions. When Focus Mode is enabled, the extension analyzes webpage and video context to classify content, evaluate its relevance to the selected study goal, and apply the user's selected focus rules.
2. Information processed
- Study settings: selected subject, topic, study duration, enforcement mode, and related Focus Mode settings.
- Page and video context: webpage URLs, page titles, video titles and descriptions, visible page text, and other available page/video metadata used for content classification and study-relevance decisions.
- Navigation and tab information: navigation/page-change events, the active tab or tab identifier, URL, title, and timing information needed to re-evaluate content and maintain Focus Mode.
- Local analysis results: content classifications, study-relevance results, confidence information, decisions, and related analysis metadata.
- Session information and statistics: locally calculated session duration, pages analyzed, blocked-content counts, and educational/distraction/unrelated classification counts.
3. How the information is used
The information above is used only to provide FocusLens features, including Focus Mode, webpage/video classification, study-goal relevance checks, session tracking, and enforcement of the user's selected focus settings. It is not used for advertising or unrelated profiling.
4. Local processing and storage
FocusLens is designed around local browser processing. Its packaged content-classification code and ML model run locally in the extension. FocusLens stores required settings, session information, analysis information, and event records in the browser's local extension storage.
Local event and ML-analysis records are limited in size by the extension. The ML shadow logger retains at most 500 ML observations, while the general event log is limited to 5,000 events. These limits are technical retention limits and do not mean that data is retained on a remote server.
5. ML analysis and exported data
FocusLens may generate local ML-analysis information such as a prediction, confidence, confidence margin, confidence band, decision, and class probabilities. These records are used for FocusLens analysis and evaluation.
The extension includes a user-initiated CSV export for ML shadow-analysis observations. If the user chooses to export the data, the exported file can contain timestamps, URLs, page titles, predictions, confidence values, decisions, class probabilities, and related analysis fields. The export is saved through the browser's download mechanism at the user's request.
6. Sharing and sale of data
FocusLens does not sell user data. FocusLens does not share browsing activity or webpage content with advertisers. The core extension does not require a central server or remote browsing-history database for its local classification functionality.
7. User control
Users can start or stop Focus Mode and change their study settings through the extension. Users can also clear extension storage using the browser's extension/site-data controls. Any CSV export is initiated by the user rather than automatically sent to a third party.
8. Data retention
Information stored by FocusLens remains in the browser until it is removed by the extension, cleared by the user, or otherwise reset by the browser. The extension applies storage limits to its event and ML-analysis logs to avoid unbounded local retention.
9. Security
FocusLens uses local browser storage and local processing for its core functionality. Reasonable technical measures are used to limit processing to the extension's intended features. No method of electronic storage or processing can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
10. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when FocusLens changes its functionality or data practices. The "Last updated" date above will be changed when material updates are made.
