SchemaSmith Community License (SSCL) Version 2.0 Copyright (c) 2024-present SchemaSmith Contributors 1. Permissions You are granted a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to: a) Use the software for any purpose — personal, commercial, internal, educational — without restriction on organization size, revenue, database size, or number of environments. b) Modify the software for your own use. c) Submit contributions (pull requests, patches, issues) to the official SchemaSmith repositories. 2. Patent Grant Each contributor grants you a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive patent license to make, use, and run their contributions to this software. 3. Restrictions You may NOT: a) Redistribute the software — in source or binary form — as a standalone product, as a component marketed or provided to third parties within another product, or as a service, whether free or paid. The following do not constitute redistribution or offering the software as a service: - Using the software to manage databases for your own products or services, whether you or your customers host those databases. - Providing setup, configuration, or implementation services that enable a licensed user to operate the software for their own use. - Including the software's deployment components in your product's installation or update process solely to apply database changes required by your own product. However, operating the software on an ongoing basis on behalf of third parties — such as providing perpetual database management, maintenance, or migration services where SchemaSmith is the primary tool — is considered offering the software as a service and is not permitted under this license. b) Offer the software as a hosted or managed service (SaaS, PaaS, or similar) where third parties interact with SchemaSmith functionality. c) Remove, alter, or obscure any copyright notices, license text, or attribution. d) Use the SchemaSmith name, logo, or branding to imply endorsement of your product or service. For clarity: using SchemaSmith to manage databases for your own products is always permitted, whether you or your customers host those databases. Consultants may help you set up and configure SchemaSmith — but ongoing database management using SchemaSmith must be performed by your own organization, not outsourced to a third party as a perpetual service. 4. Contributions By submitting a contribution to this project, you agree that: a) Your contribution is licensed under the same terms as this license. b) You have the legal right to make the contribution and, to the best of your knowledge, it does not violate any third party's intellectual property rights. c) You grant the SchemaSmith project maintainers a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, modify, and distribute your contribution in all SchemaSmith database management products, including commercial editions. d) You retain all ownership rights to your contributions. 5. No Warranty THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE. 6. Termination This license terminates automatically if you breach any of its terms. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the software and destroy all copies in your possession. If you cure the breach within 30 days of becoming aware of it, your license is automatically reinstated, provided this is your first breach. For subsequent breaches, reinstatement requires written permission from the SchemaSmith project maintainers. Termination of this license does not affect any contribution licenses granted under Section 4, which survive termination. 7. Governing Law This license is governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, without regard to its conflict of laws provisions. Any disputes arising under this license shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Florida. 8. License Versioning This license applies to the version of the software with which it is distributed. Updated versions of the software may be released under updated license terms. Your use of any version of the software is governed by the license distributed with that version.
