The Roux In 1755, the British Crown expelled the Acadians from Nova Scotia. They called it *le Grand Dérangement* — the Great Disruption. Families scattered. Homes burned. A people erased from the land they'd worked for generations. They landed in a swamp nobody wanted. Louisiana. Hot, hostile, forgotten. And they did what no colonial power expected: they **stayed**. They made crawfish into cuisine. They turned cypress into shelter. They kept speaking French when the Americans told them to stop. They were *tête dure*. Hardheaded. And the hardheadedness wasn't a flaw. The Gumbo Gumbo doesn't have a recipe. It has a **method**. You start with the roux — oil and flour, stirred constantly, never walking away, until it reaches the color of a dirty penny. The constraint isn't a limitation. It's what makes each pot unique. This is non-bijunctive cooking. You prune what doesn't work. You amplify what does. We love you too.* ## The problem with every other consensus mechanism **Proof-of-Work** rewards whoever can buy the newest ASICs — hardware depreciates the moment you rack it, so the network is a treadmill of e-waste. **Proof-of-Stake** rewards whoever already has the most tokens — capital, not computation. Both converge on the same failure: the physical machine is disposable. RustChain inverts the incentive. **Proof of Antiquity** rewards hardware for *surviving*. Proof of Antiquity's answer is that age is *physical*, and physics doesn't virtualize. Every attestation must pass hardware fingerprint checks: 1. **Clock-skew and oscillator drift** — quartz oscillators drift as silicon ages; a 20-year-old G4 has a drift signature no fresh CPU or VM reproduces. VMs show hypervisor-flattened timing. 2. **Cache timing tone** — L1/L2/L3 latency sweeps produce a harmonic profile; caches age unevenly and emulators produce impossibly perfect curves. 3. **SIMD unit identity** — AltiVec/SSE/NEON pipelines have per-die timing bias; software emulation flattens it instantly. 4. **Thermal drift entropy** — heat curves through cold boot, saturation, and relaxation are physical and unique; simulators ignore them. 5. **Instruction path jitter** — cycle-level jitter across integer, branch, FPU, and load/store units; no VM replicates real jitter at nanosecond scale. 6. **Anti-emulation behavioral checks** — hypervisor scheduling artifacts, time dilation, uniform thermal response, DMI/SMBIOS traces. Identical ROM hashes across "different" machines is a confession. This is verification by physics, not by trust. There is no TEE vendor to compromise, no oracle to bribe. The silicon *is* the credential. ## The economics - **Total supply: 8,388,608 RTC** — exactly 2²³. Pure binary, immutable. - **94% emitted through mining**; 6% founder premine split into four equal 1.5% on-chain wallets with a 1-year unlock delay. - **$0 VC.** The network was built for roughly the price of a used car — pawn shop arbitrage and datacenter decommission pulls — and secured by machines other people threw away. - **1 CPU = 1 vote**, weighted by antiquity. No stake-weighting, no hashrate arms race. ## The environmental argument Every blockchain claims green credentials. RustChain's version is arithmetic, not offsets: **the greenest computation is the one that already exists.** A G4 kept out of a landfill has its manufacturing carbon already sunk; the marginal cost of its participation is a few watts. DePIN networks sell coverage, storage, or FLOPS.
