# Syntax errors and warnings

All script fields provide controls for checking the syntax for errors and for locating the error easily when one occurs.

The syntax editor displays messages about errors or warnings in your scripts in the following situations:

-   Saving a new record or updating an existing record.
-   Selecting the syntax checking icon before saving or updating a record.

You can configure whether to show indicators next to a line of code that contains an issue for errors, warnings, both, or none with the **glide.ui.syntax\_editor.show\_warnings\_errors** system property.
