# Add a business capability to a goal

Add existing business capabilities to goals, or create business capabilities directly from goal records.

## Before you begin

Role required: sn\_apm.apm\_user

## About this task

A goal is mapped to a business capability using the relationship type **Realizes :: Realized by**.

## Procedure

1.  Navigate to **Workspaces** > **Enterprise Architecture Workspace**.

2.  Open the Portfolio List view by selecting the Portfolio icon \(\[Omitted image "portfolio-icon.png"\] Alt text:\).

3.  Next to **Business Architecture**, select the expand row icon \(\[Omitted image "ExpandIcon.png"\] Alt text:\).

4.  Select **Goals**.

5.  Select the goal that you want to add a business capability to.

6.  Select the **Business capabilities** tab.

    **Note:** If you don't see the **Business capabilities** tab, select **More**.

7.  Add a business capability using one of the following methods.

    -   To add an existing business capability:
        1.  Select **Add**.
        2.  In the Add business capability window, select the business capability. A suggested relationship type appears in the **Relationship type** field, but you can select a different type from the list, if needed.
        3.  Select **Add**.
    -   To create a business capability, select **New** and complete the fields on the form. For field descriptions, see [Create business capability form](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/application-portfolio-management/eaw-cap-form.md).

## Result

The business capability appears in the **Business capabilities** related list for the goal.
