# Exploring business units

Business units are part of your organization that are responsible for certain operations and have their own objectives.

Business units usually comprise departments and they have their own set of requirements regarding hardware and software, to meet their organizational objectives.

Using the Enterprise Architecture Workspace, business units can manage their business applications effectively.

You can also associate a business unit with the business processes it owns and the business capabilities it uses. This shows how your organizational structure maps to what your organization does and how it does it.

**Note:** Before Australia Patch 5, a business capability or business process could be associated with only one business unit, using a **Business Unit** field on the form. This field has been removed from the default form view and replaced with the **Related business units** related list, which lets you associate a business capability with multiple business units. The Business Unit field still exists on the table — administrators can add it back to the form from Form Layout if needed. Associations that existed before the upgrade are not automatically migrated; you must explicitly add the business unit to the Related business units related list.
