# Modify defer load instance option

Deferred loading helps delay the loading of a resource or widget to improve the overall usability of the page.

## Before you begin

Ensure you understand the deferred load behavior. Role required: admin.

## About this task

The deferred load is available for the following widgets.

-   Content Experience
-   Quick Links
-   News Feed
-   Popular Topics
-   Relevant for you
-   App Launcher
-   My active Items

## Procedure

1.  Follow one of the steps:

    1.  Navigate to **All** > **Service Portal** > **Service Portal Configuration** > **Widget Editor**.

    2.  On the Employee Center home page, press and hold the control key, right-click the widget, and select **Page in Designer**.

    The following page appears.

2.  Click the **Defer load** icon.

3.  Fill in the following fields as explained in [Configure widget loading order in Service Portal](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/platform-user-interface/configure-widget-loading-order.md).

4.  Click **Save**.


## Result

Defer loading of the widget is enabled.
