# Facilitate the patent review process

Update the tracking information through the final resolution of the patent review process after you receive the resolution of the patent application review by an outside counsel.

## Before you begin

An email from outside counsel with the decision on patent filing has been received.

Role required: sn\_lg\_ip.patent\_fulfiller

## Procedure

1.  Navigate to **All** > **Legal Counsel Center**.

2.  Based on the resolution of the patent application review by the outside counsel, either close the request or indicate that the patent was filed.

1.  Select the List icon \(\[Omitted image "lsd-lcc-list-icon.png"\] Alt text: List icon\) from the primary navigation and in the Legal Requests section of the **Lists** menu, select **All**.
2.  Open the Legal Invention Disclosure request and select the **Legal Matters** tab.
3.  Open the matter associated with the request.
4.  Select **Patent filed**.
5.  On the form, provide the reference number, filing date, and title of the application from the outside counsel's email message.
6.  Select **Submit**.
    -   A Patent Repo record to track the details and status of the application is automatically generated and is accessible on the **Patent repositories** tab.
    -   A new matter task named "Patent filed" is generated and is accessible in the **Tasks** tab.
    -   The legal matter State is updated to Work in Progress and the Application status is updated to Patent filed.
    -   If an optional reward for the inventor at the Patent filed stage has been set up, it is processed and sent to the inventor.

2.  Open the Legal Invention Disclosure request and select the **Legal Matters** tab.
3.  Open the matter associated with the request.
4.  Select **Close Complete**.
5.  Provide the reason for the closure in the comment box in the **Close Complete Matter** window.
6.  If you want to close all associated requests, select the **Close related requests** check box.
7.  Select **OK**.

</table>3.  Once the outside counsel notifies the patent fulfiller about the resolution of the patent application to the patent authorities, either close the request if the patent was rejected or indicate that the patent was granted.

5.  On the form, provide the patent grant number and issuance date of the application from the outside counsel's email message.
6.  Select **Confirm**.

    -   The Patent Repo record is automatically updated with the additional details and is accessible on the **Patent repositories** tab.
    -   A new matter task named "Patent granted" is generated and is accessible in the **Tasks** tab.
    -   The legal matter State is updated to Work in Progress and the Application status is updated to Patent Granted.
    -   If an optional reward for the inventor at the Patent granted stage has been set up, it is processed and sent to the inventor.

</table>4.  Approve the pending tasks related to the stages of the application process.

    1.  Navigate to **All** &gt; **Legal Counsel Center**.

    2.  In the **Pending approvals** widget, select the number.

    3.  Select all the requests in the Approvals section.

    4.  Select **Approve** for bulk approval of the requests.

        In the Task tab, the State of the approved task is updated to Closed Complete.

5.  Select **Close Complete** to close the matter.
