# Configure users and groups

A user is an individual who can access your instance and a group is a set of users who share a common purpose. The users associated with a group are listed as group members.

## About this task

Group information is used across most processes in the ServiceNow AI Platform for assigning work to teams and requesting approvals. Any rule that is applied to a UR group is automatically assigned to all the group members, for example, roles and assignment rules.

-   You can import existing users and groups using guided setup.
