# Request an AI model

Request the development or procurement of an AI model to support an AI system and initiate governance review, risk assessment, and life cycle tracking.

## Before you begin

Role required: sn\_ai\_case\_mgmt.ai\_case\_business\_user \(Employee Center\), sn\_ai\_asset\_mgmt.ai\_asset\_owner \(AI Control Tower dashboard\)

## About this task

An AI model is a core component of an AI system that performs learning, prediction, classification, or generation based on training data. Requesting an AI model initiates governance review, risk assessment, and life cycle tracking before the model is trained, procured, or deployed. After you submit this request, you land on the confirmation page in Employee Center. The **here** link in the confirmation message and the **Open in AI Control Tower** link on the post-submission page open the corresponding AI model in AI Control Tower instead of the legacy AI Control Tower workspace. The AI model record header also displays the model name and identifier.

## Procedure

1.  Request an AI model using one of the following options.

1.  Navigate to **All** &gt; **Self-Service** &gt; **Employee Center**.
2.  Select **Help center** &gt; **Technology services** and then select **AI assets** from the Technology services topics section.
3.  Select the **Request an AI model** card.
 **Note:**

AI Risk and Compliance Business User and AI Asset owner can complete this option.

**AI Control Tower**

1.  Navigate to **All** &gt; **AI Control Tower**.
2.  On the AI Control Tower dashboard, select the list icon \[Omitted image "list-icon-airc-ws.png"\] Alt text:, and navigate to the **AI asset inventory - Managed** or **AI asset inventory - Unmanaged**.
3.  Select **AI Model**, then select **Add AI Model**.
 **Note:**

An AI Asset owner can complete this option.

3.  To add attachments, select **Add attachments**.

4.  To save the form as a draft and edit it later, select **Save as Draft**.

5.  Select **Submit**.

    The AI model request is submitted for review as part of the AI governance process.


## Result

The AI model request is submitted for governance review and routed to the appropriate AI governance stakeholders based on your organization's configured intake workflow.

## What to do next

After submitting an AI model request, the next steps depend on your role in the AI governance life cycle.

AI Product Owner or Requester \[`sn_grc_ai_gov.ai_risk_and_compliance_business_user`\]: Provide additional information as requested during intake and onboarding, including details about the model purpose, training approach, intended usage, and how the model supports one or more AI systems. You may be asked to clarify model sourcing \(in-house or third-party\), data dependencies, or expected business outcomes.

AI Steward or AI Center of Excellence \(AI CoE\) \[sn\_grc\_ai\_gov.ai\_risk\_and\_compliance\_manager, sn\_ai\_asset\_mgmt.ai\_asset\_owner\]: Review submitted requests for business and strategy alignment, initiate the review process and trigger required assessments, and coordinate cross-functional reviews. Continue to oversee the AI model through its life cycle, including inventory tracking, governance activities, linkage to related datasets and AI systems, and collaboration across stakeholders.

Risk and Compliance Manager \[sn\_grc\_ai\_gov.ai\_risk\_and\_compliance\_manager\]: Assess the AI model for regulatory, policy, and risk considerations. Assign risk and impact assessments, recommend controls and attestations, and monitor compliance throughout the AI model life cycle and its associated AI system life cycle.
