# Life-cycle stages of an automation request

The State transition of an automation request guides you through the stages of its life cycle.

|Life-cycle stage status|Description|
|-----------------------|-----------|
|New|Default value for a new automation request.|
|Planned|Automation request that is moved to a planned state.|
|In Progress|Automation request that is picked up and work is in progress.|
|Published|Automation request that is ready to be active.|
|Deferred|Automation request that is postponed for a later date.|
|Rejected|Automation request that is rejected.|
