# Using alert rules to control when Health Log Analytics generates alerts

Alert rules enable you to set conditions that determine when Health Log Analytics \(HLA\) triggers an alert.

HLA detects anomalies automatically by learning from your log data. However, some log types need custom alert rules to generate alerts reliably.
