# Product catalog items

Product catalog items are hardware and software that you can track and offer in the service catalog.

The product catalog is an extension of the [Service Catalog](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/servicenow-platform/service-catalog.md) that contains a list of available [Models](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/it-service-management/product-catalog/c_Models.md). Users with the catalog\_admin role can create, activate, and deactivate product catalog items.
