# Propose a major incident

Propose an incident to a major incident candidate based on the incident information.

## Before you begin

Role required: itil

## Procedure

1.  Open an incident record.

    For information about creating an incident in Service Operations Workspace, see [Create an incident in Service Operations Workspace](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/it-service-management/service-operations-workspace/create-incident-sow.md).

2.  On the incident record, use the following information to decide if you want to propose this incident:

    -   Incident information on the **Overview** tab
    -   Incident information on the **Details** tab
    -   Incident information on the **Related records** tab
    -   Record information on the Contextual side panel

3.  On the incident record for the incident that you want to propose, select **Propose Major incident.**

4.  On the Propose Major incident window, fill in the details.

    |Field|Description|
    |-----|-----------|
    |Work notes|Reason for proposing the incident as major incident candidate.|
    |Business Impact|Details of the impact created by the incident on the business.|

5.  Select **Propose Major incident**.
