# Generate a custom data pattern by using ServiceNow Otto for Vault

Use the generate custom data pattern skill to create a custom regular expression data pattern from your description and add it as an active data pattern to your instance.

## Before you begin

-   Ensure that the generate custom data pattern skill is active. For more information, see [Activate an AI skill](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/intelligent-experiences/configure-a-now-assist-skill.md).

Role required: sn\_vault\_console.vault\_console\_admin

## About this task

This skill improves your efficiency by reducing the time required to understand and write regular expressions.

## Procedure

1.  Navigate to **All** > **Vault** > **Vault console**.

2.  In the ServiceNow Otto panel, select **Generate custom data pattern** and specify the details.

    Example prompt: `I need help creating a regex to detect sensitive data for a Netherlands drivers license.`
