# Create a data collector for a policy version

Create a data collector for a policy version in the Define Variables section of the Policy Builder.

## Before you begin

Role required: sn\_pace.code\_editor

## Procedure

1.  Navigate to **All** > **Variable Definition** > **Data Collectors**.

2.  Select **New**.\[Omitted image "pace-create-data-collector.jpg"\] Alt text: Create new data collector page.

3.  On the form, fill in the fields as needed.

    |Field|Description|
    |-----|-----------|
    |Name|Name of the data collector.|
    |Category|Category of the data collector. See [Managing categories in PaCE](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/servicenow-platform/policy-as-code-engine-pace/pace-categories.md) for details.|
    |Description|Additional details of the data collector.|
    |Created|Date and time when the data collector was created.|
    |Created by|Name of the user who created the data collector.|
    |Updated|Date and time when the data collector was updated.|
    |Updated by|Name of the user who updated the data collector.|

4.  Click **Save**.
