# Optimizing rack and cabinet usage

Optimize your rack's capacity by following these guidelines for adding, configuring, and calculating other components using the Telecommunications Network Inventory application.

## Before you begin

Role required: sn\_ni\_core.inventory\_admin, sn\_ni\_core.inventory\_agent

## Procedure

1.  Navigate to **Workspaces** > **Network Inventory Workspace**.

2.  Select the list icon \(\[Omitted image "ni-workspace-list-icon.png"\] Alt text: List icon.\), and then go to **Inventory** > **Rack**.

3.  Select a rack from the displayed list.

4.  From the rack or cabinet view, perform one of the following actions.

    |Actions|Steps|
    |-------|-----|
    |Edit rack|To learn more, see [Edit rack](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/telecom-network-inventory/telecommunications-network-inventory/edit-rack.md).|
    |Edit cabinet|To learn more, see [Edit a cabinet](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/telecom-network-inventory/telecommunications-network-inventory/edit-a-cabinet.md).|
    |Refresh rack equipment|Select refresh \(\[Omitted image "refresh-order-line-item-orchestration-plan-ui.png"\] Alt text: Refresh icon\) icon to see updated equipment of the rack if any changes are performed.|
    |Create equipment|Select **\(\[Omitted image "options-icon.png"\] Alt text: Options icon\)** > **Create equipment**. In the displayed form, fill in the fields. To learn more, see [Create equipment from rack view](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/telecom-network-inventory/telecommunications-network-inventory/create-equipment-from-rack-view.md).|
    |Save|Save the rack or cabinet.|
    |Add packs|Select the more options icon \(\[Omitted image "options-icon.png"\] Alt text: More Options icon.\) and then select **Add Packs** to capture the attributes for a configuration item \(CI\) record. To learn more, see [Attribute pack for CI records](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/telecom-network-inventory/telecommunications-network-inventory/using-pack-table-ci-record.md).|
    |Calculate Capacity|Select and redirect to **Capacity Metrics** tab to see the updated capacity metrics.|
    |Decommission|Select **\(\[Omitted image "options-icon.png"\] Alt text: Options icon\)** > **Decommission** to decommission this rack. To learn more, see [Decommission an inventory record](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/telecom-network-inventory/telecommunications-network-inventory/decommision-an-inventory-record.md).|
    |Delete|Select **\(\[Omitted image "options-icon.png"\] Alt text: Options icon\)** > **Delete** to delete this rack or cabinet. On deleting this rack or cabinet, all related records are deleted.|
