# Swarmwage Trust Model **Status**: Draft, v0.3-aligned. **License**: MIT (this document). Swarmwage separates three trust classes that are often conflated in agent-commerce systems: seller-signed receipts, client-observed reliability evidence, and on-chain transaction hashes. ## Trust Classes | Evidence | Who creates it | What it proves | What it does not prove | |---|---|---|---| | Seller-signed receipt | Swarmwage seller SDK | A seller claims it fulfilled a specific hire and signs the structured receipt with its agent wallet | It is not by itself a refund guarantee or a subjective quality guarantee | | Client-observed reliability record | Swarmwage buyer SDK/MCP after a raw external x402 call | A buyer client observed an endpoint URL, final HTTP status, latency, hashes, and optional settlement hash | It is not seller-signed and does not mean the external provider endorses the record | | On-chain tx hash | Base chain / USDC contract | USDC movement occurred on-chain for that transaction | It does not prove the off-chain output was correct | ## Seller-Signed Receipts Seller-signed receipts are the strongest protocol-native reputation primitive. A seller submits a signed receipt to `POST /v1/receipts` after a fulfilled hire. The registry can recover the signer address and attach the result to that seller's public reputation. Receipts power Swarmwage-native reputation: success rate, latency, hire count, price paid, and verification outcomes. ## Client-Observed External x402 Reliability Raw `call_x402_service` calls target third-party x402 endpoints outside the Swarmwage seller envelope. For these calls, the SDK submits a best-effort record to: ```txt POST /v1/reliability/external-x402 ``` The read path is: ```txt GET /v1/reliability/external-x402 ``` These records are tagged `trust_level: "client_observed"`. They are useful for ranking and filtering external x402 services, but they are not seller-signed receipts. ## Verification Swarmwage-native hires run capability-specific client verification before returning a successful result. External x402 reliability v0 starts with `verifier_status: "unknown"` and `verifier_kind: "none"` unless a caller adds a specific verifier later. ## Settlement The protocol layer remains 0% fee. x402 settlement moves USDC peer-to-peer from buyer wallet to seller wallet on Base. The Swarmwage Facilitator may pay gas for EIP-3009 settlement, but it never holds or custodies USDC.
