--- name: first-draft description: "Write the first draft of a screenplay on untitled.movie from the scene outline, in Fountain, one sequence at a time and without overwriting what the author wrote. Use when the author asks to write the script, the next sequence or particular scenes." --- # First draft The screenplay from the scene outline, end to end, sequence by sequence. Finishing end to end matters more than polish. ## Before you start Work in a session: unless one is open in this conversation, call `start_session` with the author's request as `trigger` and read the brief it returns. You propose, the author decides. ## Steps 1. Take the sequence or scenes the author names. If they name none, write the next sequence that has no pages yet (`list_documents`, `get_outline`). 2. If there is no screenplay yet, create it with `create_document`, kind `screenplay`. Otherwise take a snapshot first with `create_snapshot`, then add to the draft with `write_document` or `edit_text`, against the digests you read. Never overwrite text the author wrote. 3. Write in Fountain: scene headings begin with INT. or EXT., a character's name stands in capitals on its own line above the dialogue, and action is plain paragraphs. 4. Stay in the voice of the tone samples. Use the character names of the name map exactly. Mark holes instead of inventing past them. 5. If the project has a roadmap: set the station `first_draft` to in progress with `update_station` unless it already is, and add what you made with `add_outputs`. Leave marking it done to the author. 6. Stop after each sequence and report: pages and scenes (`get_script_analytics`), what you invented beyond the outline, and the holes you left. If the author asks for something different from these steps, do what the author asks.
