James Campbell was born Jul. 11, 1798 in N. Ireland; died Feb. 14, 1865
in Tioga Co., PA. Married Feb. 28, 1822 in Nelson to Mary
Blackwell, born 1806 in Pine Twp., Lycoming Co., PA, died Aug. 15,
1863 in Tioga Co.
He was a farmer. He helped to build, and was an elder of, the Beechers
Island Presbyterian Church.
James was the youngest of 8 children of Joseph
Campbell, b. 1748 in Scotland, d. 1824 in Nelson (originally
called Beecher's Island); and Mary
Harper, b. 1749 in Scotland, d. 1844 in Nelson.
James, his parents, and his young siblings apparently
sailed from Londonderry to Perth Amboy, NJ in 1810 and arrived in Nelson
early in 1811. His uncle, John Campbell,
came to America by 1777. Some of James' older siblings had come to
America by by 1802.
Mary was the elder of Sarah
Lugg and her 2nd husband Enoch
Blackwell's two children. After Enoch's death in 1816, Sarah Lugg
married a 3rd time to John Campbell, James' uncle.
James' brother, Joseph ,
married Mary's half-sister, Ann Clinch.
