# Privacy Policy — Brightspace Transcript Saver **Last updated:** March 21, 2026 This policy describes how the **Brightspace Transcript Saver** browser extension (“the extension”) handles information when you use it. ## What the extension does The extension helps you copy or save transcript text from the transcript or captions panel in D2L Brightspace (and similar) video pages. It runs only when **you** open the extension and click **Pull transcript** (or use copy/download). It does **not** run continuously in the background to collect data. ## Data collection and transmission - The extension **does not** send your transcripts, browsing history, or any personal data to our servers. **We do not operate a backend** for this extension. - Transcript text is read from the page only to show it in the extension popup or to place it on your clipboard / in a file you download. That processing happens **locally on your device**. ## Permissions (why they are needed) | Permission | Purpose | | ------------ | ------- | | **Host access** | Brightspace often loads the video and transcript inside embedded frames that may use a different web address than the course page. The extension needs permission to run a small script in those contexts so it can read the visible transcript text when you ask it to. | | **Scripting** | Injects that read-only script only when you use the extension. | | **Tabs** | Targets the tab you are using when you pull a transcript. | | **Downloads** | Lets you save a `.txt` file when you choose download. | ## Third parties The extension does not embed analytics or advertising. Your use of Brightspace, your school, or video hosts is governed by their own terms and policies. ## Changes We may update this policy if the extension changes. The **Last updated** date at the top will change when we do. ## Contact For privacy questions about this extension, open an issue on this repository or use the contact method listed on the extension’s Chrome Web Store page.
