# semikolan.net Github repo of my tech blog - [semikolan.net](http://semikolan.net) The blog is powered by [Jekyll](http://jekyllrb.com/). Jekyll is a simple, blog-aware, static site generator written in Ruby. All the posts are written in [markdown](http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/), like [the one](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/abkolan/abkolan.github.io/master/README.md) you are reading. If you have posted on sites like [reddit](http://reddit.com) or [stackoverflow](http://stackoverflow), you already know what markdown is. These markdown files are then committed to your repo and Bob's your uncle - your post is published. Unlike wordpress there is no database. The entire source of Jekyll is available on github [here](https://github.com/jekyll/jekyll). Feel free to have a look see. There are also numerous tutorials like [this one by Smashing Magazine](http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2014/08/01/build-blog-jekyll-github-pages/) or [this one by the author of Jekyll, who is also the co-founder of Github](http://tom.preston-werner.com/2008/11/17/blogging-like-a-hacker.html) on how to get started on Jekyll and start blogging like a hacker. The site uses a minimalistic theme called [Pixyll](http://www.pixyll.com) crafted by [John Otander](http://johnotander.com) ([@4lpine](https://twitter.com/4lpine)). Have questions?
