This SAP CodeJam event is on the topic of the ABAP Cloud Development Model in SAP S/4HANA 2022.

We will give yo an introduction about the ABAP Cloud Development in an SAP S/4HANA 2022 on-premise environment. The fundamental principle is that ABAP cloud-ready and ABAP classic code can coexist in the same system since the ABAP language version is defined on ABAP object level. This offers a gradual transition from the classic to the cloud extensibility model.

To understand the basic idea of ABAP Cloud Development you will learn how to:

- Use the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP) to develop transactional Fiori applications

- Use public SAP APIs released by SAP to access SAP functionality and SAP data

- Use public SAP extension points released by SAP to extend SAP objects

- Use ADT (ABAP Development Tools) as your ABAP IDE

With the SAP S/4HANA 2022 release the same extensibility model can now be used in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition, and SAP S/4HANA.

For this SAP CodeJam event, we would like to try something different and offer a hybrid topic SAP CodeJam. The idea is to merge the RAP and the CAP CodeJam offerings into one event, allowing attendees to get a taste for both the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model(RAP), and the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model(CAP) with SAP HANA. The instructors will present an overview of both programming models where attendees can draw comparisons between them. Attendees will have the choice of which exercise set they want to work on during the event, and can of course choose to do the remaining exercises on their own later at home.

Topic abstracts:

ABAP Cloud & the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model - Attendees will be introduced to ABAP Cloud and the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model. ABAP Cloud is the ABAP based development model for S/4HANA Cloud, S/4HANA on premise, and SAP BTP, ABAP environment. Learn how to use proven and new technologies, such as Core Data Services (CDS) and behavior definition and implementation languages, to build SAP Fiori apps and OData services on any of the ABAP Cloud options. In this hands-on experience, developers will create their first ABAP applications using ABAP Cloud, expose and consume services via HTTP, and explore the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model.

SAP Cloud Application Programming Model with SAP HANA Cloud to Create Full-Stack Applications. Attendees will learn how to deploy and configure an instance of the SAP HANA Cloud trial, develop a multi-target application using SAP Business Application Studio and SAP Cloud Application Programming Model, and create a service layer and SAP Fiori UI that also includes SAP HANA native artifacts, such as calculation views.

It should install into the ABAP trial systems, it could also already be installed there from someone else as well. If so, you only have to create an application using it and you can skip the install step.

Ok, I can confirm that ABAP2UI5 is installed on the trial instance https://c75f608d-4148-434a-88e1-64b75d24911a.abap-web.us10.hana.ondemand.com/ So if you are on that trial instance, you need not install it, just use the ABAP2UI5 framework to create your app as outlined above.

So this week sees the second task in the challenge, which introduces another CAP plugin, this time for GraphQL. Now, while many of you already realize that CAP is absolutely awesome for rapidly building OData services and much more, CAP itself is actually a lot more protocol and database agnostic than you might think. So yes, if GraphQL is your bag, then this plugin that you're gonna be learning about on this task is for you. Anyway, if you haven't already completed task one of this developer challenge, Well, first of all, why not? But second of all, just head back with the link, complete task one, then come back and do this task, task two on the CAP plugin for GraphQL. It's fun and you learn stuff. What's not to like?

Firstly, based on your feedback, there is another way to access Release Navigator from SAP Support Portal. Click on Offerings and Programs and select Release Ready. Second, you can find the quarterly maintenance window according to the latest releases for the products featured. Additionally, some improvements in the usability. You can get to the product pages with less clicks now due to a simplified navigation on the home page of the Release Navigator. And lastly, Release Navigator is created using SAP Enable Now, in which you can translate all text on the Navigator pages automatically to 40 languages. The upcoming updates for the Release Navigator are scheduled on a quarterly basis in alignment with the harmonized release calendar for SAP Cloud products. [Srini]Dear SAP Builders, today I want to share with you highlights of some of the awesome features and enhancements that were released in December 2023 and January 2024 in SAP Build Process Automation. First up, we have the Process Editor, which now has a vertical layout and some great usability improvements. Check out this video by Robin Quid, product manager of SAP Build Process Automation. We also have some new tutorials on this topic. So make sure to try them out. We have introduced a new governance capability called environments. Environments provide a virtual space where you can deploy and run projects with an ability to create different shared environments. If you are curious to learn how to use this new capability, head over to this help portal page. In December, 2023, we added 19 new content packages. These packages are tailored for different lines of businesses, such as finance, procurement, IT, sales, and more. To see all the available packages, I recommend you exploring SAP Build in the SAP Accelerator Hub. There is now a new enhanced recorder in Desktop Agent 3 with various options, providing more control over the recording process with an user-friendly experience to manage your automation activities. Another exciting addition is the Run Now action for event triggers. This feature enables you to test your end-to-end processes locally with expected payload format without having to connect to multiple systems. And here is some great news for those who love customization. You can now build API actions from scratch using the Action Editor without relying on existing templates. It is super easy to use. This SAP CodeJam event is on the topic of the ABAP Cloud Development Model in SAP S/4HANA 2023.

To understand the basic idea of ABAP Cloud Development you will learn how to:

- Use the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP) to develop transactional Fiori applications

- Use public SAP APIs released by SAP to access SAP functionality and SAP data

- Use public SAP extension points released by SAP to extend SAP objects

- Use ADT (ABAP Development Tools) as your ABAP IDE

With the SAP S/4HANA 2023 release the same extensibility model can now be used in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition, and SAP S/4HANA.

This Luigi app can host different frontend applications such as a React app, a SAP UI5 SAP Fiori elements application, an Angular app, all within a single Luigi application. All these different front-end applications can be developed, tested, deployed, and maintained independently by very distributed disks.
