This SAP CodeJam instance will be about Event-driven integration using SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh. Join us for this 5-hour event of developer networking and hands-on learning in Risch-Rotkreuz, Switzerland.

We will achieve an integration scenario like the one in the diagram below by the end of the CodeJam.

Nice to know that this is possible. However, if possible, it might be best to send it to some form of message broker, e.g. Event Mesh capability or SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh, so that the event can be easily distributed to many more consumers in case it is needed in the future.,

TIL - How to force a specific version of SAP UI5 when running Fiori preview in a CAP project

Today, I was running a very simple CAP service, which is part of the Service integration with SAP Cloud Application Programming model CodeJam. When running the Fiori preview for an entity, I was always getting an error message in the console: TypeError: o.intersection is not a function. This error was raised by the Fiori preview independent of the entity that I was trying to preview. That made me thing that the issue was not with the entity but with the Fiori preview itself.

Based on the network requests that I was able to see in the Developer Tools, I knew it was using version 1.132.0 of SAP UI5. Then I thought… let’s force the project to use a different version to see if the error would go away. I debugged the CAP project and I knew exactly where was the version of SAP UI5 being set. I set the variable to 1.130.0 and the preview worked fine. Nice!

Now, I don’t want to debug the project every time and manually set the version…. digging deeper, I found out that the @sap/cds-fiori module has a package.json, where the version of SAP UI5 is set. It is well known that you can set project-specific configuration via a .env file. So, I created a .env file in the root of the project and
set the following content:

cds.fiori.preview.ui5.version=1.130.0

By setting that environment variable I’m forcing the project to use version 1.130.0 of SAP UI5 when running the Fiori preview. I restarted the project and the preview worked fine.

How to peek into queues in SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh

In this short blog post, we will explore how to leverage JMSToolbox to connect to SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh (AEM), and peek at events that are in a queue.

JMSToolbox

First of all, what is JMSToolbox? JMSToolbox is a JMS Client that allows us to easily connect to different Queue Managers/Queue available, e.g. SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh.

We can download JMSToolbox straight from the project's GitHub repository: https://github.com/jmstoolbox/jmstoolbox. We will need to download the binaries from the repository. Installation instructions may vary depending on the platform on which you will be running it.

AEM connection details

Before we can connect to AEM via JMSToolbox, we will need some details from our event broker service.

Broker connection details for the Solace Messaging protocol. Go to the Event Broker service you want to connect to > Connect tab > View by protocol and expand the Solace Messaging accordion. Select any language from the list, and the credentials should appear on the right side. From here, we need the host URI, username, and password.
Event broker service management details. We need the service management URL, VPN, username, and password. In the same event broker service go to the Manage tab > expand the Broker Manager - Web application accordion. The required details should appear on the screen. See the screenshot below.

Connecting to AEM in JMSToolbox

Now that we have the AEM connection details, we can proceed to configure JMSToolbox.

In JMSToolbox we create a new session and configure a connection to AEM. Here you will input the Session Name, Queue Manager, Host/Port (from the Solace Messaging connection details), and Security User id and password. The connection details will look similar to the ones in the screenshot below.

Before creating the session we will define some properties. Enter the event broker service management details in the respective fields - VPN, mgmt_url, mgmgt_username, mgmt_password, and then click the Create button. The session properties will look similar to the ones in the screenshot below.

Once configured, it will connect to AEM and automatically show all the queues available in the event broker service. Click on any queue to peek at the events available.

This SAP CodeJam event is on the topic of Getting started with Generative AI Hub on SAP AI Core and Python. You do not need to have any background in the topic, but a lot of curiosity!

In this CodeJam you will learn how to use Generative AI Hub on SAP AI Core to implement a retrieval augmented generation (RAG) use case to improve the responses of large language models (LLMs) and reduce hallucinations. You will learn how to deploy an LLM and the orchestration service on SAP AI Core and query it via SAP AI Launchpad and the Python SDK. Furthermore, you will learn about the most important genAI concepts and create and use embeddings to improve your RAG response and build your own chatbot with memory.

This is an in-person event only (not virtual) and is planned for Friday, May 30th, 2025 at the SAP office in Madrid 🇪🇸 from 09:30 - 14:30 local time. The language of the event and the content will be English.

In Cloud Integration you should be consuming from the queue directly, not subscribing to the topic. The queue is already subscribed to the topic and it will capture those events for you. This is why you received the events in Cloud Integration (because of the additional topic subscription) but the queue still has events. You are not consuming the events in the queue. In the sender adapter, configure the queue instead of the topic and it should work.

@erza, if you have access to AEM, you might be able to complete the first part of the CodeJam. You will still be missing the S4HC mock system that sends events to AEM, but there is a public Docker image that you can run locally to send events to your AEM: https://hub.docker.com/r/ajmaradiaga/s4-mock-server-with-bp-created-events. It is the exact same service we are running for the CodeJam.

How about we meet again? But this time to chat about SAP TechEd and Devtoberfest 2024.

The SAP Meetup in Madrid will take place on May 29, 2025, at 18:00 local time at Cerveceria Köln, which is very close to the new SAP office.

The idea is to get together and share a bit about everything in the SAP world. This time around, share our experiences/opinions about the first big SAP event of the year - SAP Sapphire. Also, SAP Champion @MustafaBensan is in town and he will be joining us :-).

We do not have a reservation in the space, but it is fairly large, and we could put a couple of tables together there. Live stream your in-person event so anyone in the SAP Community can join

In this blog post, I will share some things to consider if you would like to live stream your in-person event so that community members who aren't able to join the in-person event can still join virtually. What I'm sharing here is what we used to live stream SIT Madrid 2025.

Live streaming the day of the event

First of all, why would you want to live stream your event? Unfortunately, not everyone who is interested in your event will be able to make it in person. Also, space limitations might be an issue. It is not possible to accommodate everyone who is interested in attending. Some might only be interested in a session or two. Well, in those cases, a live stream might help increase the reach of your event. The event can have virtual attendees, and what's great about live streaming is that you can "attend" the sessions any time, as they will be automatically recorded and available on the streaming platform later, e.g. YouTube.

Platforms

YouTube account: You can easily create a YouTube account for your event, e.g. https://www.youtube.com/@SIT-Madrid. This will be a new channel, and you will need verify it in order to request access to be able to live stream - https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2474026?hl=en&ref_topic=9257984&sjid=18308706078969327092-EU. It takes 24 hours before they grant the account access. In the case of SIT Madrid, we have a domain (https://sitmadrid.com) and an email address associated with it, so it was simple to create an account.
- YouTube chat: Some virtual attendees might want to interact via YouTube chat, so keep an eye on it while you stream.

In the SIT Madrid channel, you'll notice that there are three separate sessions. This is because of a limitation in YouTube that only allows you to livestream for a maximum of two hours. Hence why we create three separate sessions.

LinkedIn: Ideally, you will create a page for your event, e.g. https://www.linkedin.com/company/sap-inside-track-madrid/?viewAsMember=true. If you have a LinkedIn page you can live stream on LinkedIn. You can find all details on how to live stream on LinkedIn here - https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a564446/.

Software

OBS Studio is a free and open-source software for video recording and live streaming. If you are not familiar with it, it is crucial to learn the basics. Many tutorials are available on YouTube explaining how to set it up, create scenes, add sources, etc. In the case of SIT Madrid, we used it to customise what we streamed, e.g., adding sponsor logos, showing a background before the start of a session, etc.

Multiple RTMP outputs plugin: You are feeling a bit adventurous and would like to stream to multiple platforms, e.g. YouTube and LinkedIn? You can use this plugin to configure multiple RTMPs and stream to all of them simultaneously. See more details here: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/multiple-rtmp-outputs-plugin.964/

Zoom: In order to properly stream the screen of the presenter, every presenter joined a Zoom call. In OBS, we added Zoom as a source, and it was included in the scene. Thanks to @AAncos for sharing his Zoom account :-).

Hardware

Laptop: You will need a dedicated computer to run OBS Studio and plug different devices that you will configure in your live stream, e.g. microphone, camera.
Microphone: A microphone is needed to properly capture the speaker's voice and include it in the stream. In the case of SIT Madrid, we used the RODE Wireless Go (Gen 2) microphones. The receiver was plugged into the laptop via USB, and we handed the transmitter to the speaker. In our case, we had two transmitters, meaning we could have two speakers presenting and talking simultaneously without having to share the microphone. The transmitters are battery powered so we have to keep charging when not in use.

Camera: An external camera focusing on the presenter. This can be as simple as using a mobile phone and connecting it to your computer as a camera. For SIT Madrid, we had a DSLR - Canon EOS R, plugged into a power supply and via USB to the laptop. Most cameras nowadays have accompanying software that lets you use them as webcams.
Tripod: That camera has to be fixed to something, right? Either that or someone will need to hold it for quite some time hehe.
External battery (optional): If your microphones run out of battery, you can easily charge them while the speaker is using them.

Test your setup

Practice live streaming a few times. I'll say it again... practice before the event a few times. Ideally, you will be using the exact same equipment you are planning to use, and you will test the live stream in the location where the event will take place using the internet connection you plan on using (WiFi/Ethernet). There are many moving pieces and lots of things can go wrong.

Can you do a live stream that isn't accessible publicly? It is possible to do a private or unlisted live stream on YouTube. Not possible on LinkedIn.

Testing live stream the day before the event

In the case of SIT Madrid, we test the entire set-up, including the presenter mic'd up and joining the Zoom call, a few days before the event at the event location.

And that's it... Simple, isn't it? I hope this blog post gives you an idea of what's required to provide a live stream to those in your area who can't make it to the event but can end up watching the recording.
