Hi faresabbes,

The problem is that SAP Conversational AI is not bundled with SAP Build Work Zone Advanced Edition and must be separately licensed for those customers wishing to implement chatbot functionality in Work Zone. However, as I understand, because of the sunsetting, it is no longer possible to purchase new Conversational AI licenses. The implication of this is that if a customer is starting an SAP Build Work Zone Advanced Edition project now, they will not be able to license Conversational AI and will have to do without chatbot functionality until such time as Joule becomes available for SAP Build Work Zone.

The other issue with Joule is that I don't see any plans for it to be trained on the customer's corporate data. In the case of SAP Build Work Zone, Advanced Edition, the value of a chatbot would come from providing contextual information from the Knowledge Base content created by the customer, which would require a mechanism for Joule to be trained on.

Can you provide any further guidance on the above?

Great idea to start this discussion. Here are my initial questions and comments to get the ball rolling:

Optimising SAP HANA Cloud costs through multiple tenants is a good idea. When referring to a "tenant" here, I assume you mean HDI Container within the SAP HANA Cloud instance, is that right? Another consideration if you have a SAP HANA Cloud instance in its own subaccount for sharing tenants is how this would work when building CAP services for an application in another subaccount. i.e. We would need to consider how CAP handles cross-subaccount interaction with HANA Cloud and whether this works out-of-the-box or whether special handling is required.
I agree with the approach of DEV, QA and PROD subaccounts, assuming they correspond 1:1 with your backend systems in an S/4 context.
Regarding space naming conventions, if subaccounts are DEV, QA and PROD, then space names should be the same in each subaccount for consistency and not named "Dev", "QA" and "Prod". You could have multiple spaces in each subaccount depending on what you decide about their purpose.
I like the idea of a common Services subaccount for ALM services like Cloud Transport Management. It would be good to get SAP's view on whether there are any implications of having both prod and non-prod instances of IAS in the same Service subaccount.
I'd suggest that Integration Suite non-prod and prod should be separate subaccounts.
Another important setup point to consider is a consistent approach to principal propagation across your landscape and ensuring this is applied appropriately across your BTP subaccounts.
Regarding platform user security, as a minimum best practice, I would think that the Corporate Identity Provider should be integrated rather than using the SAP ID service.

Anyway, that's my two cents worth for now. Keen to know any further thoughts you or others may have.

Thanks for the feedback, Matt. About Point 5, if you mean separate Dev, QAS and Prod Integration Suite subaccounts then I'm all for that if you have deep pockets 🙂 The only reason I suggested Prod and Non-prod subaccounts/tenants for Integration Suite is because this is the approach I have observed customers take to minimise cost, as the base subscription for an IS tenant is quite costly.

Hi Tuncay,

In answer to your question, "Is Is SAP Integration Suite a feasible tool for this mission", it seems like quite a bit of effort and intricacy for a solution that still has gaps as pointed out in the Observations section. I think this is a good case for undertaking a buy vs build analysis, where you could consider a purpose-built 3rd-party product like Precog which directly integrates Ariba and Datasphere.

One very important aspect that is missing from this example is showing an approach for approver (or agent) determination. In a real world scenario, the business rules for determining the approver can be quite complex, so an example of how to address this with the capabilities of SAP Build Process Automation would make for a more comprehensive solution example.

Regarding the statement "Tasks can only be opened within the My Inbox of the default site", does this mean that even when using Task Centre, there is still a dependency on the My Inbox app? i.e. Task Centre cannot be used without the My Inbox app, is that right?

You've certainly addressed a very valid scenario to optimise SAP HANA Cloud subscription costs between development and test environments. This is also valid for production environments where for example CAP applications are developed in different production subaccounts for different business domains and there is a desire to share and consume common services such as SAP HANA Cloud from a single subaccount. Have you experienced this latter scenario?

Is there an API for maintaining Decisions in SAP Build Process Automation?

SAP Build Process Automation currently provides an API to invoke Decisions, which enables a Decision to be consumed from an application, such as a CAP or UI5 application.

I would like to know if an API is available to maintain Decisions? The use case is to allow business users to maintain the business rule entries in a Decision Table from a custom Fiori/UI5 app to provide a purpose-built user experience rather than exposing the SAP Build Process Automation Cloud Studio Decision Builder UI directly to business users.

I thought I saw this as an upcoming feature on the SBPA Road Map but its seems to have dropped off. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the fast response. The Rules API you have referenced appears to be for the Business Rules capability associated with the deprecated SAP Workflow Management service. I am looking for an equivalent API for the successor, which is the Decisions capability in SAP Build Process Automation.

As for the use case for maintaining Decisions, keep in mind that Decisions do not have to be consumed/embedded directly in a workflow. They can be consumed independently by any custom application that needs a business rule capability, using the Invoke Rule Service API. For such a use case, it is a common requirement to provide a UI to maintain the business rules like this example, where the structure of the business rule/decision table is not changed but the user is able to change the values of the fields or add new rows when business requirements change. This way, business users have the ability to configure the business logic of the application, without the need for modifying the coding of the application logic.

More specifically, examples of use cases for maintaining Decisions (Business Rules) via API are as follows:
1) Embedded Business Rules (Decision Tables) in a SaaS application UI.
2) Back-end Business Logic for Fiori Extension Applications and Line-of-Business Smart Process Applications as described in Usage Scenarios.

So in the above context, is the API you have suggested also applicable to SAP Build Process Automation Decisions/Business Rules?

Thanks so much for the detailed analysis. This makes things very interesting indeed. My only concern now is that even if the Rule Authoring API for Cloud Foundry may work technically for maintaining SBPA Decisions, because it is still classified under the old SAP Workflow Management service in the documentation, I wonder if the use of this API with SBPA would be officially supported by SAP? Do you have a view on this?

Thanks for your feedback. A couple of questions:

1) The RuleBuilder SAPUI5 control already exists. How will the one you mention be different?

2) Even with the RuleBuilder control, we would still need an API to manage rules, for example to retrieve a list of rules that would be displayed in a List Report for a user to select and then edit in a detail page that contains the RuleBuilder control. Will a rule authoring API for newly created Decisions be made available as well?
