How to Add a New Tab in ESS Portal for Time Event (Punch In/Out)

Hi SAP Community,

I am working on Employee Self-Service (ESS) in SAP Portal and I want to add a new tab in the ESS overview for Time Event, where employees can view and record Punch In / Punch Out times.

Here’s what I have done so far:

Created a Web Dynpro ABAP Component (Z_HRESS_TIME_EVENT) with:
- From Date / To Date input
- Punch In / Punch Out buttons
- Table showing history of time events
Exposed it as a Web Dynpro Application (Z_HRESS_TIME_EVENT_APP) in SE80, which runs perfectly when tested directly.
In LPD_CUST, I created a new folder under the same Role / Instance as other tabs (Working Time, Personal Information, Benefits) and added my application there.

Problem / Question:

When I log in to the ESS Portal, I do not see my new tab. I understand that the Portal shows tabs via iViews and role assignments.

I want to know:

How can I create an iView for my Web Dynpro application and assign it to the ESS Role / Workset in the Portal?
Can this be done without Portal Admin access, or do I need someone with admin rights?
Are there best practices for adding Time Event tabs in ESS overview for punch in/out functionality?

Any guidance, example steps, or references would be very helpful!

How to Convert System Raw Logs to Readable SM21 using ABAP program?

I am using RSLG_READ_SLG FM to decode the SM21 data using ABAP program but the issue is that RSLG_READ_SLG is showing data in raw format which is not very readable.

When designing ERP integrations (for AR/AP document flows), Business/System Analysts often face a range of “gotcha” questions — technical, architectural, and sometimes unexpected.
Here are some of the real-world questions I ask clients during the API and ERP connector discovery phase:

What’s the minimum required ERP version to support all AR/AP endpoints?
Could upgrading the ERP version change the API behavior (fields, formats)?
Are there any heavy or slow API methods under load? Recommended workarounds?
Does the ERP provider charge for API calls, or is usage unlimited?
Can we get a list of possible API error codes?
Any record count limits per request? (e.g., max 1000 records in GET)
What type of authentication is used — Basic Auth, OAuth2, or token-based?
What’s the average response time of the API?
Are there any debug/logging tools if something goes wrong with the call?
Any breaking changes in recent patches that could affect us?
Does the API support batch insert/update or only record-by-record?
In what format are dates returned? Full datetime or date-only?
How are balances returned (positive/negative for credit memos)?
Can documents be posted without updating the "last modified" date?
Can an account include multiple subsidiaries? How to filter by them in the API?
Are any API methods planned for deprecation? What will replace them?
Are some API endpoints available only with paid ERP modules or add-ons?
Are some fields or features hidden unless specific ERP configuration settings are enabled?
Does the ERP API return full relational data (e.g., linked documents, GL splits), or do we need extra queries?
How can we detect deleted records if the API doesn’t expose a deleted flag or status?

These questions aren't just technical — they help avoid costly mistakes, failed syncs, or misunderstood logic.

As per the implementation of SAP Note 3552901, I have followed all the post-manual steps outlined in the note. However, I am encountering an issue where Step 2.1.8 is not displayed in the standard program NOTE_3552901_2, despite completing all prior steps successfully.

we are creating PO for a particular company code, while saving it says PO got created under number. but when viewing it pop-up comes EXPRESS DOCUMENT "UPDATE WAS CANCELLLED" by author.

Cuando realizo el consumo a través de SAP Gateway, funciona perfectamente, pero cuando traslado la misma operación a mi programa ABAP, el consumo GET se realiza perfectamente, pero el POST me da un error sobre el token, que fue asignado correctamente al método (creo).

Hi SAP Gurus,

My question is: I'm loop-ing an internal table having more than 20k materials in which I have to change a material master filed (MARC-NCOST).
Using BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA and "COMMIT WORK AND WAIT" statement I encounter a very slow down of the overall system performances.

Is it better to use COMMIT WORK only instead of "COMMIT WORK AND WAIT" ? I've read that lock time increase and it may cause a queue in ENQUEUE and UPDATE TASK work process, is it true ?

Hi all,

We are developing in a S/4 Public Cloud environment (using embedded steampunk or ABAP cloud).

As part of the developments ahead, we need to "rebuild" classic developments, which use commonly known BAPIs such as BAPI_GOODSMVT_CREATE, which are not allowed in Public cloud, based on clean core principles.

As we move forward in research of the new ways, we found out (based on the Material Document example):

- There's a Material Document Business Object: Material Document

- There's a Material Document Business Object Interface (BOI), which is intended to be used for LOCAL (embedded) RAP developments as the ones we need: MaterialDocument / I_MATERIALDOCUMENTTP

- There's a Material Document API, which is intended to be used for SIDE-BY-SIDE (from BTP) or consumed from OUTSIDE S/4 (not the majority of our current scenarios): API_MATERIAL_DOCUMENT_SRV

We also found out, while both are present and documented on Business Accelerator Hub, the API one is far more documented and friendly for a functional analyst, including even a Try-Out section to test it with data. Which is very useful as it is needed to elaborate functional specs including test cases.

This poses a problem since what we will end up using from ABAP code (by EML) is the BOI, not the API. Since we have no similar tool for BOIs, how we can assure and correlate the API and the BOI? Is there a 1:1 equivalence listing? Are there any plans for a BOI testing tool similar to the one provided for APIs?

How divested consolidation unit is not coming in group data analysis and group data analysis with reporting sap fiori app. In cds C_CnsldtnRpt30Q, C_CnsldtnRpt40Q and cds P_CnsldtnGroupJrnlEntrItm there are no such checks related to divesture. Table fincs_grpstr is used no where in cds as this table field LYEAR and LPERI fields related to divesture. So how exactly consolidation units which are divested are not coming. What is the logic behind this?

Hello,

I found SAP notes 2122700 and 2332007, and I have some questions about table PPH_HANA_ACTIVE.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?
We use the BADI MRP_DISPATCHER_BADI, and after MRP-Live we use, change the date and at the end save it in our z-tables. In order to achieve the optimal processing time, we are considering making entries in the PPH_HANA_ACTIVE table.

Can entire packages that will be checked also be entered into the table? Or are only transactions and programs recommended? There is very little information on exactly how such an entry can affect performance.

Hello Experts,

I am trying to test POST call for UI_MAINTWORKREQUESTOVW_V2 with C_MaintWorkRequestOverviewTP and to_EventPrio Navigation for Priority creation but its giving Dump and Forbidden error on Gateway client but same works as expected on "Screen Maintenance Request" application.

We are having Maintenance notification created and when we Edit it and tries to add Priorities POST call works and gives created response in Network tab.
Same when I trying on Gateway client its giving Forbidden and Short dump below

Can someone help me to find what exactly I am doing wrong?
