--- name: transitions description: Design purposeful transitions between motion-design scenes, shots and compositions with continuity, rhythm and visual motivation. --- # Transitions A transition must explain why one visual state becomes another. ## Transition families - match cut - directional wipe - mask reveal - shape morph - scale-through - camera push/pull - whip movement - light-based reveal - object occlusion - particle/dust bridge - graphic continuity ## Selection rules Use the visual relationship between outgoing and incoming shots. Match: - direction - scale - shape - color - motion - subject position ## Timing A transition should usually be shorter than the scene it connects unless the transition itself is the storytelling moment. Use anticipation before aggressive movement and settle after the cut. ## Avoid Do not stack multiple transition effects. One strong transition is usually better than five weak ones.
