Volume Control for MacOS https://raw.githubusercontent.com/alberti42/Volume-Control/main/Releases/VolumeControlCast.xml Most recent changes with links to updates. en 2.3.2 Wed, 23 Sep 2026 17:35:00 +0000 261 2.3.2 13.5 Compatible with macOS 27 Golden Gate

Volume Control 2.3.2 runs on macOS 27 Golden Gate. Version 2.3.1 was published only as a pre-release; its changes are included here.

A player that stops responding no longer freezes Volume Control

Volume Control controls Apple Music, Spotify, Doppler and Swinsian through Apple Events. When a player stopped answering them, Volume Control waited about 2 minutes for each answer. On macOS 27, an Apple Music that did not respond at launch kept the menu bar icon from appearing.

  • Volume Control now waits at most 2 s for a player to answer.
  • After a player fails to answer once, Volume Control stops sending it requests. The volume keys act on the next ticked player that is playing, or on System, and the menu shows (n/a) next to the player. Volume Control checks the player every 3 s and uses it again as soon as it answers, or once it quits.

More detail in Copy Diagnostics

The report from Copy Diagnostics now also includes:

  • Event tap: whether Volume Control receives the volume keys at all. If Accessibility is granted but the keys do not arrive, the report says how to fix the permission record.
  • Players targeted by the volume keys: for each player, whether it is ticked in the menu, running, and playing, or not responding.
  • Settings: the options that change which volume the keys act on.
  • Last volume key press: the key, whether the Command key was held, and which player the key acted on. To check the Command key, press Command + volume up, then choose Copy Diagnostics.

Changes since v2.3.0

  • 6a14ed6 Report the last volume key press in diagnostics
  • 865c986 Skip players that stop answering Apple Events
  • 804af20 Ignore volume keys when the player's volume read timed out
  • aa7a2c5 Show "(timed out)" in the menu when a player does not answer
  • a229548 Time out Apple Events to a player after 2 s
  • 1d65e92 Report event tap, player targeting and settings in diagnostics

2.3.0 Sat, 11 Jul 2026 15:18:25 +0000 248 2.3.0 13.5 Better support for displays and devices without a standard volume control

This release better handles output devices that don't expose a normal master volume (e.g., USB‑C / DisplayPort / HDMI monitors). It is a response to #53.

  • Displays with no software volume control are now detected correctly. The menu shows the system volume as (n/a) instead of a misleading 0%, the System entry is unchecked, and the volume keys are handed back to macOS for its native handling instead of appearing to do nothing. Both single presses and press‑and‑hold ramping are passed through.
  • Devices with per‑channel volume but no master control (for example AirPods) are now fully controllable — Volume Control adjusts the left and right channels directly, matching what macOS itself does.
  • Lowering the system volume to 0% no longer forces the output device into a muted state that could remain stuck after the volume was raised again.

New: Copy Diagnostics

A new Copy Diagnostics item in the menu gathers a plain‑text report — app and macOS versions, Accessibility/Automation permission status, and the volume controls exposed by every audio output device — and copies it to your clipboard, ready to paste into a bug report. Nothing is sent over the Internet, and you can read and edit the text before sharing.

Changes since v2.2.2

  • 489725d Add "Copy Diagnostics" menu item for bug reports
  • cdf0b5c Add per-channel volume fallback for devices without a master element
  • 50cbcc6 Uncheck the System menu item when the output has no controllable volume
  • 2880d34 Hand volume keys back to macOS when the output has no controllable volume
  • 92fa2be Don't force device mute when system volume reaches 0%

2.2.2 Tue, 21 Apr 2026 13:39:35 +0000 240 2.2.2 13.5 Bug Fixes
  • Fixed the volume HUD appearing in the top-right corner when the menu bar icon was hidden via Hide from Status Bar. The HUD is now centered near the top of the screen, matching macOS Tahoe's native placement.
  • Fixed the volume HUD appearing in the top-left corner when the menu bar icon was hidden by third-party tools such as Ice or Bartender. The HUD now falls back to the centered position in this case too. Resolves #50.
  • Fixed the volume HUD appearing too close to the top of the screen when the menu bar was set to auto-hide (System Settings → Control Center → Automatically hide and show the menu bar). When you hover to reveal the menu bar, the HUD now anchors under the icon as expected; when the menu bar is hidden, it is shown at the same position as if the menu bar were drawn.

2.2.1 Tue, 07 Apr 2026 16:25:27 +0000 237 2.2.1 13.5 New features
  • Added support for Swinsian music player (fixes #25)

Bug fixes

  • Smoother volume control when holding a key — Holding the volume up/down key now adjusts the volume continuously and smoothly. Previously, a slowdown introduced in macOS Tahoe caused the volume to change in sluggish, uneven steps when holding the key down.
  • Fixed volume display jumping to wrong position — The volume bar in the on-screen HUD could snap to an incorrect position appearing around 25% when the volume was actually near zero). This has been fixed and the indicator now always reflects the true volume level.
