They are attributed to Qadar even though they do not believe in it." muftis: shaykh: - name: Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen url: /biography/uthaymeen/ --- ### Question: You mentioned belief in Al-Qadar (Divine Decree), and there is a group known as the Qadariyah. We would like to know: what is their madhab (creed)? ### Answer: The term Al-Qadariyyah (the Qadarites) refers to those who deny Al-Qadar. This is considered a negative attribution (attribution by negation). Conventionally, when someone is attributed to a thing, it means they affirm or possess it. However, in this case, it is the opposite: these people are attributed to al-Qadar even though they do not believe in it. The Qadari (the one who denies Divine Decree) claims that a human being is entirely independent in their actions, and that Allah has no involvement in them. Some of them go to such extremes that they even say: "Allah does not know of the servant's action until after it has occurred." These individuals are referred to by the Ahl al-Sunnah as the "Magians", they say: **'The Qadariyah are the Magians of this Ummah.'** How is that so? The Qadaris say this universe has two creators: Light and Darkness: Whatever is evil is created by darkness, and whatever is good is created by light; thus, they assigned two creators to all events and beings. The Qadariyah are similar in this regard: they claim that a servant is independent in their actions and what occurs from them, while what Allah does belongs to Allah. By doing this, they resemble the Magians. Therefore, they were given this title. There is a Hadith regarding this, though it is weak (da'if), yet the people of Sunnah have adopted this title.
