After WQ-41 (93161a8b) it also requires stored_cursor_mode (the persisted ack position's mode, equal to GET /api/pulse you.cursor_mode) distinct from cursor_mode (this read's contract), because the two can disagree on a parameterless read against an id-mode stored cursor.",
