# American Electric Power > American Electric Power (AEP) is one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, > delivering electricity to more than 5.6 million customers across 11 states through regulated > subsidiaries including AEP Ohio, AEP Texas, Appalachian Power, Indiana Michigan Power, > Kentucky Power, Public Service Company of Oklahoma and Southwestern Electric Power Company. > AEP operates the nation's largest electricity transmission network — over 40,000 miles — and > roughly 31,000 megawatts of generating capacity. ## API surface AEP operates a real API program, but it is not publicly readable. - [AEP API Management developer portal](https://developer.aep.com/): Azure API Management developer portal, branded "AEP API Management" and footed "Powered by AEP Integration COE". Backing instance `apim-aep-prod-use2-001` (confirmed at https://developer.aep.com/config.json). - [APIs list](https://developer.aep.com/apis): the catalog page. The anonymous data call behind it, `GET /developer/apis?api-version=2022-04-01-preview`, returns `{"value":[],"nextLink":null}` — zero APIs are visible without a portal account. - [Products list](https://developer.aep.com/products): likewise returns an empty product set anonymously, so no plan, quota or price is published. - [Sign up](https://developer.aep.com/signup) / [Sign in](https://developer.aep.com/signin): a developer-portal account is required before any API, operation or specification is shown. - API gateway host: `https://api.aep.com` — a live Azure API Management gateway (APIM `x-ms-request-id` headers behind an F5 WAF). Unauthenticated requests return `{ "statusCode": 404, "message": "Resource not found" }`. No route is anonymously reachable. ## What is NOT published - No OpenAPI, Swagger, GraphQL SDL, AsyncAPI, gRPC/Protobuf or WSDL contract at any public URL. - No MCP server (hosted or stdio) and no A2A agent card. - No `/.well-known/` documents on any AEP host: security.txt, api-catalog, openid-configuration, oauth-authorization-server, ai-plugin.json, agent-card.json and agent.json all 404 on www.aep.com, developer.aep.com, api.aep.com and the operating-company sites. - No first-party SDK, CLI or client library in npm, PyPI, Maven Central, NuGet, RubyGems, crates.io or pkg.go.dev. - No published rate limits, API changelog, status page, deprecation policy or vulnerability disclosure program. ## Customer data access Customer-authorized energy-usage data at AEP operating companies is shared through Green Button Connect My Data (the NAESB ESPI profile) rather than through a first-party developer API. That surface is customer-consent and portal driven; AEP publishes no ESPI contract of its own. ## Company - [AEP.com](https://www.aep.com/) - [About AEP](https://www.aep.com/about/) - [News](https://www.aep.com/news/) - [Investors](https://www.aep.com/investors/) - [Contact](https://www.aep.com/contact/) - [Terms & Conditions](https://www.aep.com/terms/) - [Privacy Notice](https://www.aep.com/privacy/) - [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/company/american-electric-power)
